i've been thinking about upgrading my suspension system. are sway bars and strut braces
1.- worth it?
2.- installed easily without completely disassembling the car and scratching my head after 40 hours?
3.- any preference in manufactures or suppliers?
thanks for the input.
Sway bars are definitely worth it: reduced bodyroll, adjustable handling traits and added stiffness. It's the #1 mod to the E46 I recommend to everyone.
Brands: H&R and UUC these days with stock/non-race suspensions. H&R has the newest Teflon coated bushing that are squeak-resistant. UUC's will squeak the most and require often lubing. Both are good designs. H&R reuses OEm end-links at the rear, while UUC sends you adjustable rear links. There were clunking issues with those in the past.
Racing Dynamics used to make the best sways before, but now only the fake ones are left...
Stut braces are not useful on the street on the E46 chassis. They look good though if you open the hood. Track and AutoX is a different story, however. The front end will be stay flatter through the corners, especially during transitions. Variety is available from generics to super expensive ACS and RD Sport, based on quality, fit'n'finish and stiffnes.
