any tips?

I have a stock 2002 330i

is there anything I could do that would be detrimental to the car and I need to avoid?

Anyone have any estimates on what a stock 330i does in the 1/4 mile?

Race it with DSC on/off?

I plan on using the manual shifter (wish I truly had a stick)

yeah dude, leave it in DS, have DSC off, and maybe leave your spare tire w/ a buddy that is at the strip with you for your run. (the tire won't make much difference, but weight is weight) that said depending on the gas situation nearby, maybe consider going there with a quarter tank.

I live in Dallas also. Where are you going to race?

going to the races

at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis (south of Dallas off of I-45).

you run time trials to get your 1/4 mile times. They then put you in brackets and they "normalize" your competition by setting the staging lights to where both cars should cross the finish line at the same time. In other words, if you run a 15 sec and someone else runs a 12 sec, then you get a 3 second head start. So, ANY vehicle can compete against ANY other vehicle (i.e. station wagon vs. corvette).

The trick, though, is to cross the finish line WITHOUT going below your computed time (i.e. run a 14.5 if you said you were going to run a 15.0). If you go below your time, you lose.

it's all about consistency....trying to run the exact same time EVERY time.

you mentioned that you wish you had stick and would use the manual shift mode. But since you are running bracket racing, as you said, consistency is everything, you will be better off running it in Sport Auto mode. That will be more consistent than Steptronic manual or a full manual tranny.
