Hello all, new here.

I have a 2001 325Ci, 42K miles.

Previous owner tore up the temp sensor......as well as fender liner. The ambient temp sensor is reading -40, service advisor at BMW center suggested buying a new one, which I did. I changed it out myself.

Still reading -40, called back and was advised that it will reset itself automatically. It has been 2 days and no luck.

Are they missing something?

Also, would this mess with my A/C? Tends to blow cold for a few minutes, then blows warm for a few minutes.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know anything about the sensor itself, but I would venture to say it would mess with your climate control. I am reasonably sure it uses outside temp and inside temp to determine what sort of air to blow. For example, if the inside temp were 85 and the outside temp were 95, it would blow major A/C fully out of the main vents. But if it were 85 inside and 40 outside, I wouldn't expect the same fully blown A/C, but some other comfortable low speed warmish air to be blowing.

Agreed?

my thoughts as well.....

Getting conflicting info as to the re-setting issue.....service dept said it will reset itself......others have said no reset to it.

Regardless, still waiting to hear back as to how long that should take, seems like it would have started correcting itself already (been 2 days).
