my 91 318iS (e30).. the temperature gauge (where the clock is) is malfunctioning? it reads -22 degrees F. anyone know whats wrong?.. how to fix it? thanks

Mine too. It'll work for 20 minutes, then go down to -22 or some crazy number, then stablize. It wouldn't bother me much, except everytime it drops below 36 deg., the warning chime will sound. I am guessing that it is a fault in the sensor itself, but the bentley doesn't seem to mention it. Any clue as to where that sensor is?

So I just went to bavauto.com and found part # 65 81 1 385 337, the sensor in question. I will ask where it is on the car before I throw down the $44.95 (loose connection?)

It sure is a sign that the sensor is faulty. Happened to me already. Bought a new one and worked fine since. If its erratic try disconnecting the harness and clean the contacts. Worth a try....good luck
