Tempurature Control

Can someone explain the "tempurature control wheel" in the center of the front air vents. I read th emanual and understand what they are suppose to do. My question really is why is this needed.

I have auto temp. control in my car. Isn't 70 degrees, 70 degrees regardless of where this wheel is (blue or red)? ny what is the white line in the middle?

What do other do? Do you keep switching between the red and the blue to adjust the temp in the car? It seems I can change the tempurature by 3 - 5 degres just by rolling the wheel, or do you leave the wheel in one spot and change the tempurature in the climate control?

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I'm still new.

Thanks.

its all about the face bmws you can adjust the air that goes in your face while you keep the ohter vents feet and defrost at a slightly different temp on the e38 they dont even let hot air blow in the drivers face for fear off falling a sleep or getting to comfy while at the wheel

it's a comfort thing.. it's much easier to adjust the temp of air coming out of hte front vents by changing the settings than dropping the temp and waiting for the system to re-adjust.

but you just gotta do what works for you, you know? [;)]

I too found this odd> But I agree that it seems to work well enough. It's crisp in the mornings where I llive, and even though the heat is on, it is kind of nice to have a touch of fresh air coming in thru the dash vents.
I'll be interested to see what I think of the whole system when it's January and minus 25C (-15F). My guess is that if I let too much cold in thru the dash vent, then the heater will kick into high gear in an effort to keep the interior at the selected temp.
