Well my neighbor of mine has some cars he modifies for fun mostly classic Amercian Muscle and an old Porsche for track racing. I know he puts in that STP Octane Booster in his car when he fill ups every time for fuel, Heres the dumb question. Will it help a car like a 330i? Or will it mess it up? He gave me a a whole box of it since my dad has a 1973 Detmaso Pantera and told him to put it in after every fill up...

A 330 is programmed to run best on premium (92 - 93 octane). So if you are using premium, octane boost will not help much/at all. If you use regular, octane boost will help, up to the equivalent of premium.

It's important that to understand that octane boost DOES NOT add power to the fuel. Octane actually SLOWS DOWN the burning of fuel to allow higher compression in the engine. That's why modded muscle cars can benefit, they typically have high compression engines that could run 94 - 98 octane.

The Pantera should be really happy with octane boost. A friend of mine had one in the '80s, awesome car!

By the way, it's not a stupid question, it's a good one, many people don't understand the purpose of octane!

[thumb] Thanks Kirby, I'm glad to hear an excellent response concerning something I've always wondered about but until now had no idea concerning. I used an octane boost once but couldn't really determine if anything at all happen or didn't happen in my bimmer. Thanks again for making something viewed as complicated simple. Happy Motoring...

Basically I used to use Octane Boosters and my fuel box went bad after 3 years of using the stuff. The company found out about it because I had a couple of empty bottles in the trunk. They said it eventually does cause damage to the fuel system hence it reduces performance and causes stalls and hard start. Be careful as well because your car could just shut down anytime if the fuel box fails on you.

Oh yea, I like the JEssica Alba Pic. cheers. [headbang]

[thumb] I ask my mechanic Max at J&F Motors about octane boosters and bimmers and he advised me to never, ever, ever, ever put any octane boosters or feul additives into my BMW engine. I didn't know why but I now have a much better understanding. I had some feul problems a couple of years back and had to get my feul system drained including having all sensors replaced, it cost $1,400+ and the only changes I stupidly did was to try 97 octane feul in New York state along with Octane booster. Max, told me after repairing my vehicle that octane boosters and bimmers is a bad combination. Just my two and a half cents. Happy Motoring...

Ford decided they wanted an Italian sports car to compete with Ferrari, so they actually went after Ferrari, but got nowhere. They made a partner deal with De Tomaso. They designed a car for Ford, a US import using Ford engines.

Do you guys have something along the lines of "premium" petrol (98 octane here)?? Or Mobile 8000 or something?? I thought this is what you would use in Bimmers as I always use 98, and so does everyone else I know with a Bimmer. Just wondering!
