Hi everyone,
I have a couple of questions I would like to get some advice on.I am currently using Bridgestone Potenza 225 45 ZR 17 on all 4 wheels, the rear tires are older so they need replacing.I would like to change tire brand from bridgestone to something else.My questions are (1) Is it ok to use a different brand of tire on the rear? (2) Can I use a bigger size tire on the rear without changing the wheel size?(3) If I change the tire brand or wheel size on the rear, will it affect the handling of the car?(3) What tire brand do you recommend?

Thanks everyone,save driving.

Keep all four tires the same damn size, otherwise you might just have problems. If you do want to put larger in the back you need to do some suspension adjusting and i don't think you really want to do that. I highly suggest replacing all four tires with new ones, on my Audi i have Continental and they are doing great. Probably need to be replaced in another 5 or 10k miles though.

I agree, keep all you tires the same. A staggred set has advantages, but to be safe, go with the same size all around. Tire Rack has A LOT of useful information. Just bought Pirelli PZero Nero M+S. Awesome tire but you may have different needs than me.

[thumb] I have to agree with the above comments... I started out loving the Dunlop 5000 series tires for their All-Season qualities but when I changed wheels to a 18" I had to switch brands, mainly because the Dunlop does not come in a 5000 All-Season radial 18". I've since gone to the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S. This is the best tire I have ever driven. I love the way it handles in the snow, ice, rain and shine. It has ultra low road noise and excellent road life. They are additionally the best buy tire comparision at their price. I highly recommend this tire as does Tire Rack. [driving2] That's my two and a half cents worth...

You REALLY need to keep the same size wheels and tires all the way around. Otherwise the traction control will get confused and cause you all sorts of headaches. We have had several threads over the past year about problems when only one or two tires were replaced with a different size.

The computer "sees" the wheels turning at different speeds due to the different circumferences and gets whacked.

Excuse me but, I'm a little curious... The PS2 is $79.00 more expensive and trails the Pirelli in six out of seven categories on the Tire Rack tire survey including dry traction, wet traction, snow traction and road noise. I was just wondering how anyone could recommend a tire that is sub-standard to the Pirelli and costs more. Lucy, you've got some splainin to do... That's my two and a half cents worth... Happy Motoring... [driving2]
