How often do you all check your tire pressures? What pressure is adequate?

I have a 17" Michelin PS 2 tires and it does not indicate on the tires what number to use when filling them up. I think 34 is a good number lol but was wondering how you all go about determing when its time to put air in them and at what interval?

Thanks 4 the advice a salways

Tire pressure is normally stated on the side of the tires. I usually stay in between the 32 and 35psi range.

There is also a sticker on the inside of the drivers door that lists the various pressures.

I have the front at 32 and the back at 35. I check the pressure twice per month.

Yes, the tire sidewalls are clearly marked with the max tire pressure. For my driving, with no backseat passengers, I use 10% below the max, and adjust from there.

There is also a sticker on the inside of the drivers door that lists the various pressures.
The sticker is not matched to replacement tires. Some newer tires have higher pressure maximums than previous tires.

I check pressure everytime I fill up, ends up being about once every ten days.
That is one useful interval. Makes it handy to the air inflator. If you are not having to add much or any air, you can do it less frequently. [bmwdance]

On the tire sidewall, the maximum pressure is indicated (corresponding to the tire maximum load carrying capacity). The right tire pressure is indicated on a sticker usually located on the driver side when opening the door. Do not use rules like "max pressure minus 10%" but the one that is indicated.
A normal tire will loose about 0.4-0.6 psi per month so you should check your pressure every months. On a E46 BMW and Michelin PS2 the right pressure is around 35 psi front and 38 psi rear. This gives the right understeering/oversteering behavior for your car.

thanks everyone.

Mfavre that makes sense. It actually says max 51 psi on all my tires so I knew that can't be right. Right now they are all at about 35.

I have 17", does that matter with the 35 front and 38 back you mention?

Thanks all! [driving]

Yes you should inflate your tires as indicated (different pressure between front and rear). This will give your car the best behavior when cornering (best in the sense of safety = balance between understeering and oversteering).
Having a different pressure font/rear is equivalent as having tires with a different section width front/rear (the tire cornering stiffness is different).
