Guys, I need a new tire. 205/50/17 to be exact. Do you have a good cheap brand that i should look at?

The problem is that SEARS wants almost $700 for Tires.

Any one got any suggestion on where i can buy an ALL SEASON tires for cheap online? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Tirerack.com, tires.com, 1010tires.com

Tirerack has Pirelli P6 4 Seasons for $86 each. This is not a particularly great tire, but it's cheap. Other choices would be Dunlop or Continental in the $100 - $115 range.

Sears is not known for good prices on tires.

tirerack.com I have had excellent experience with them. I purchased Kumo last time around. A great tire (for the money), very comparable to the Pirelli p-zero nero

You can also look at General Exclaim UHPs. Its a good cheap tire that I got sold on but has worked out well for me, everyone I've talked to about them or anything I've read about the tire is pretty positive. I got mine in store for $100 a piece but tirerack.com has them for $77

I just got 2 used (75% tread) contis (205-55-15) for my Audi. It only cost me $150 mounted and installed. I bought the tires off ebay from arotire and their service was excellent.

I've also had good experience with TireRack.com.

Ordered from them 3 times, and had them installed locally.

The local guy who installed the tires asked how much I paid, and
when I told him, he said "I could never match that."

And when you have the tires installed and balanced, make sure
the installer puts the weights on the inside of the rim, so they're
not visible.

Used tires? Tires are one of the most critical components of the
vehicle, for both safety and performance.

I'd never buy them used.

While it may look better to have all your weights placed on the inside of the rim, it is better to have the installer place the weights where they are needed on BOTH sides of the rim. Modern computerized wheel/tire balancing machines don't just balance the wheel/tire assembly circumferentially, but they also balance the assembly laterally as well. If you place all your weights on the inside lip of the wheel, you will usually not achieve nearly as good of a dynamic balance as if you placed weights exactly where they are needed on both the inside and outside rim lips. It's only one small weight!

I'll gladly put up with a small weight visible on the lip of my rim if it means the wheel has a better dynamic balance as a result.

An interesting point. But I'll bet most installers just stick the weights on
the outside, because they're lazy.

So I'll qualify my earlier statement:

"When you have the tires installed and balanced, make sure the installer
puts the weights on the inside of the rim, so they're not visible, if it will
not impact proper balancing."

If they're professionally looked over I'll buy them. I didn't have the dough for new tires. They are the same brand as the rear and are working fine.

Any opinions on the Continental ContiTouringContact 205/50VR17? I don't have a frame of reference in terms of quality or comparisons to other products. This is what is currently on my 330i.

I'd suggest Tirerack.com TOTALLY! They are super fast and the tires were delivered right to my front porch in perfect shape. Can't beat them for price and quality.

wood_e,

I'll check those tires out. Certainly no rush as I have plenty of rubber remaining. Just trying to get a better understanding of the tire world.

How many miles do people generally get on tires?

I'm at 20K miles and the tires are OK dry, but are losing their
wet/snow performance.

I'm running the factory ContiSports and they have been very
good for both ride and performance.

George, i ran conti extreme contacts on my older Eagle Talon TSI AWD replacing goodyears, and the winter traction was way better than the OEMs. i'd get them as my replacements, but i need to find a korean manufactured tire, so i'm looking hard at Kumhos.

tirerack.com is a great resource in finding out about tires imo.
