tire rotation

I do not rotate the tires on either my '99 328 or '96 Z3. The tires on the Z3 wear evenly (across the tire), but the rear tires only last half as long as the front.

On the 328, the rear wore very unevenly. The inside edge, near the inside sidwall, wore a deep groove. I could not see it unless I looked very closely from the rear. I found out how deep it was when I heard a hissing sound and investigated. Lucky I didn't have a blowout at speed. Learned a valuable lesson, check the entire tire carefully and regularly. I asked service writer at the dealer and the first thing she asked was, "Wow often did you rotate them?" I told her that my owners manual recommended not rotating, she simply walked away (I don't like her very much, I think the feeling is mutual).

Never! Just changed last set at 61k

I have 2000 323Ci and replaced the original Continentals at 17K with Pirelli P6000's...I check air pressure every Saturday morning and these tires lasted 61k, now have a new set of P6000's W rated, BMW says no rotation, and I am beginning to think they actually know something about their cars! 80K and only BMW sched maint never used a drop of oil!

Don't those idiot German's realize you must change oil every 2000 miles? After all thats what my grandfather did and as we know technology hasn't changed that much from the early 20th century rtight?

You are not really supposed to rotate the tires. If you want, you can rotate them side-to-side, but you have to swap the tires from the rims, but the tire wear goes the other way, so it is not recommended.

I have never rotated my Michelin MXV4 Energys on my X5, which has 53000 miles on it. They have very little tread left now, but I have been extrememly happy with them.

Good ride, very quiet, good handling. The owner's manual does say no rotation needed.

I did have them balanced at BMW at about 25K.

I think they do the best job there because they have those special weights they put on the outer and inner parts of the wheels. So cool.

I hope I get as good performance from my ContiSports on the 330, but I am afraid I will not.

Personally, I recommend the inflation level that the manual says to for "Full Load" or "Max Load". That gives you the best handling, the longest tire life, and the best traction (at the price of the ride being marginally stiffer, of course). If the manual has only one recommended tire rating, then follow that, and maybe run 1psi over that.
