The transmission light ( looks like a gear with an exclamation point in the middle ) recently came on a few times in thepast several days. It always goes out as normal upon restarting the car. What causes this light to go on? is it an indication of a problem or is it the car's way of protecing itself? When I have had it go on ( 2 times ) it was after the traction control had kicked in due to a slippery condition. I don't know what preceded it the third time as I wasn't in the car at the time.
