Hey guys,

Anyone have problems like mine:

When I drive my car in 3rd gear, usually at low rpms, the transmission pops out of 3rd gear. I doesn't do it all the time, and has not done it while accelerating, but does it at coasting speed, and only in 3rd has this happened. Do I need a new clutch? Thanks for all your help!!!

According to the Bentley Manual for the E28 5 Series 1982-1988:
1. Worn gearshift linkage or loose shift console
2. Transmission output flange loose.
3. Worn or damaged internal gear train components.

Of course this is for a much older car than yours, but I think they apply to any car.
Items 1 and 2 are easy enough for the determined DIY owner.
Good Luck

there is a brass bushing inside the manual tranny called a Synchro (not sure on spelling) these bushings wear out in time and can cause the tranny to pop out of gear. Could be a possible cause.

How many miles do you have? Odd that it would happen on a 4 year old car unless very high miles.

Let us know what your dealer finds.
