Trunk latch not closing

I have a 99 323i. Lately the truck open light has been on and the trunk does not want to firmly latch or lock. Sometimes I can press the keyless trunk opener and it will cycle thru but often even when I lock the doors, the trunk will lift right up. Anyone experienced this and is there a "quick fix" or am I at the dealer?

Check to see if you have a nick in either the latch or the post. Had the same trouble with my convertible this summer. A nick in the latch and me trying to shut the trunk had slightly moved the post so the trunk wouldn't latch. If the trunk won't latch in a convertible then the top won't open and life is dull.
If you have a nick, file or sand it smooth. If the post moved you'll have to loosen it and reset it in the proper spot which takes a little trial and error.
