Hello,

Both turn signals and hazard lights on my 1984 318i flash rapidly, too rapidly. I checked the bulbs and they are all fine. Is their a relay or fuse that controls the speed of the flashing? If so, where is it located?

I appreciate your thoughts.

I know the same thing happened to my 318, does it blink fast in a steady pattern or is it erratic? Mine was blinking all over the place, and it turned out to be a bad ground.

I just recently noticed this problem with my 87 325is and the culprit turned out to be a bad switch on the steering column. Just wore out over time. Replacement has found the problem cured ;)

As Auslander pointed out it could be a bad ground. Also, is this problem left/right dependant? Does this problem exist when the emergency flashers are engaged? If you need a wiring diagram for this circut, I will be happy to scan it for you and post it. The left/right signal circuts and emergency flasher functions are all interconnected, but run on seperate fuses and use the same relay.

check the conections at the back of the turn lights, take them out and clean them, might have to change plugs, yours is an 84, they do rust and make bad contacts.....

Hey mate. Yeah mine did the same thing and it turned out to be a blown fuse for the auxillary fan!! I've no idea what the connection was but it's evidently very important! Pete

also, pull out the relay and check the connectors. maybe beat it with a hammer a bit and that might help to.
