Urgent Help Needed With Aux Audio Input

I just installed my aux audio input cable in my car and I connected my iPod to it but when I toggle the mode button it only goes back and forth between the radio and cd player. WHY DOESN'T IT SEE THE AUX? Am I supposed to do something first or is it just plug and play? Please help me out, it's my mom's car and when she comes home and sees everything hanging out of the car she's gonna be pissed. Thanks.

Now, is it your car or your mother's? Seems to me if it is hers you should've asked her first.

Is there a kit that will work in my 2000 323iT? The PDF talks about 2002 and newer models.
