Well it comes down to the chocies. I have tested a basic 2000 323i automatic and liked it. It was too basic though. Then tested a 2002 325i automatic and liked it more because of the premium features. Then tested a 2002 530i auto and truly loved the feel of this motor and especially its shifts. I also learned that the transmission is adaptive and will learn how you typically drive and run that way.

The 330i has the same motor and I would assume the same transmission correct? Is it adaptive as well? I truly liked the smoothness of this motor but the size and price of the 3 series.

I'd love an M3 but would like a great all around 3 series and would like to know which package, if any, to avoid or to get. Hopefully in the coming years I'll learn a lot about these awesome vehicles.

Thanks,

WALTER

Welcome aboard!

The 3.0 inline 6 is indeed the same engine in the 2002 330i and the 2002 530i. Different transmissions I believe though,(different ratios at least I'd gather, to push the different load in the 2 cars). They both are 'adaptive' (Heck even the Manual cars are 'adaptive' in regards to how it 'learns' your driving style and adjusts things to suit your style).

Welcome to the addictive world of Break My Wallet!! (just kidding!) [:D]

Yeah, BMW inline 6s are awesome. It's the one thing the Japs haven't been able to copy--yet.

I notice you have a Grand Cherokee. My sister-in-law has an '02 with the V8. That thing moves! My brother wants to race my 328i with it. He thinks he can take me. He might be right, too.

Straight line power, Rawr!!!!

All I can think of is that jeep commercial with the V8 pulling on a 325xi and an audi.. Then it goes offroad from the track suddenly, and the bmw/audi drivers are like "What?". I was like "What?" too - I sure want to track a Jeep now so that I can go offroad and have a picnic when I'm done.. [rolleyes]

Sure a V8 jeep will pull on you, if you're in a 325xi auto - maybe.. The slowest BMW sold in America. Your 328 should handle the V8 jeep no prob, especially after 70/in 3rd (gearing on jeeps is all down low, my wife owns one too). If you're auto, well let us know how it goes.. [;)]
