Valve Cover Oil Leak

I purchased a 2004 325xi new this March. Since then, I had the trans replaced for the "tacit recall" two months later. Three months ago, I also had an oil leak, which was blamed on the valve cover being "porous" which was replaced. (I noticed oil on the oxygen sensor, possible dripping down from the valve cover.) The problem stopped until this week. I again found oil coming from under the cover. Back to the shop, the cover was again blamed and was replaced. They said BMW knows about this problem and states that oil leaking into the 2nd cylinder is the clue. They said the cylinder heads were fine and they "pressure tested it" and said all is well.

Does anyone know what is going on here?

Thanks,

Marc

Wow, I've never heard that one before. Did they replace the valve cover gasket? Maybe the first time they just re-torqued it to see if that would fix the problem.

More Info

Just got the report from the dealer. They replaced the "cylinder head cover", gasket ring and the ignition coil. Cylinder one spark plug tube was full of oil.

They are still not sure what happened, but now they state "all OK".
