I have a 2001 325Ci, I'm not a mechanic.
I brought the car in for an oil change and to have the coolant looked at since it lit up a couple times on engine start up.
The shop called and told me I needed a new water pump. But I remembered I had that replaced in July 2007, and the shop has a 1 year warranty program so they will replace that for free (I had to tell them that).
So then I started looking at my car repair records:
7/07 Water pump/thermostat/valve cover gasket / drive belts - replaced all
6/07 camshaft position sensors (I was getting warm stalls, it hasn't happened since)
11/06 Water pump/thermostat - replaced
11/05 Water pump/thermostat / drive belts - replaced

Am I getting ripped? 2 things that pop out are the waterpump/thermostat (4 times!) , and the drive belts (TWICE?)

While going over these records, I got a call saying my oil housing and some gaskets were leaking...$1200 parts and labor

I'm thinking of calling back and just telling them to get the new water pump (warranty) and oil change only.

[edited part] 90k miles, has not overheated since 2001 when I bought it brand new (they had some fan problems which was covered under warranty).
also, I noticed the arm brushings, delclined it in 2007, had it replaced in 2003, and 11/05

Is this all normal, or need a new shop to go to. I love the car, but this is getting a little ridiculous when it's the same things...
I might only buy bmws under warranty...

A quality water pump, thermostat, belts will NOT fail that frequently. They should last 75,000 to 100,000 miles. Where are they getting the parts - is this a BMW dealer, or an independent? Something is not right here...

I don't know. I should have paid more attention earlier. Time for a new shop. It's an independent shop. I should have stopped going when they got new management.
