Weird AC and trunk release problem.

I recently purchased 325i 2002 on auction. As a previous bimer owner I’m well aware of the problematic electronics in all bimers. Now my newer bimer has the following issues:

1) AC – when turned on the minimal bars is two instead of 1. As soon as I turn on my AC to minimal I see two bars when I try to lower the setting even more (to one bar) it will turn off the AC.
2) Trunk release doesn’t work. Pressing the trunk release button inside the car (near hood release) nor pressing trunk release on the trunk works. Any ideas as to why? Now I can only open the trunk using the key button or by using the keylock.

Oh well I knew that I’m asking for trouble when I purchased my 2nd bimer

I think there is a fuse associated with that release, as it is electrically activated. Check that first maybe if it is totally dead. If you hear it energizing but it doesn't open, it also has moving motorized parts, so that could be broken too.

Luckily I have a 2004 325i loaner sitting in my driveway and I just checked the fan bars in it. They increment and decrement in twos. So as I press the fan up button they go up two at a time and when I get to the lowest fan setting, I see two bars, then the system turns off. Looks like the fan behavior is normal.

Thanks bmwrocks. I'll check the fuses regarding trunk release issue, i do remember it worked before and then it just died.

In regards to AC fan bars - thats too bad that you can increment/decrement in only twos. my 528i wasnt like that.

I have one more question regarding a different issue. I also have a BMW 528i which I want to sell, but for some reason my car key alarm buttons no longer work. I changed the battery and cleaned the insides of the key buttons but it still doesn’t work. Any idea as to why it stopped working all of a sudden.

My 2002 330i also has a minimum setting of 2 bars and each increase is 2 bars. Isn't that normal?

Well i switched from 528i to 325i and to me it was abnormal since on my 528i the bars increment/decrement in ones vs twos on 3series. Oh well its good to know still.
