What 3 series to buy?

My wife wants a 3 series sadan. Which one is better that the other? I am looking for a used 1996 or newer. Under $20,000. Can you tell me what models are best for maintenance? What about the Xi

Aloha Chris , welcome to the boards!!The xi is all wheel drive and I haven't heard of any models having any mjor problems . Since its for your wife then I guess you won't be into upgrades or track days right? but I've been wrong before..

I've seen alot of BMW's on ebay that look great and are pretty low on mileage. Start theer to get an idea of models and options. Good luck ..oh and then check www.kbb.com for your blue book prices and what you should be paying retail.

The bigger the engine, the more fun. No sedan is really better than the other though. If your wife isn't really into speed, the smaller inline sixes are probably enough. Don't get the 4 cyl. Have her test drive a 325 or 323 and see if those have enough power. If so, than just get the newest one you can afford.

I agree with Codex! Try to get a newer one.

For 20k you could probably get a clean 2001 325 sedan, this is what I would recommend. If your in the bay area let me know, I have a friend who can get you one with warranty for wholesale. I doubt you can get a Xi for under 20.
