Guys,
Its me again with my clunk noise(from the rear) problem.

Well after spending a small fortune(in my books) since getting the car I still have the clunk sound appearing when I decelerate/step off the throttle at about 50kmp.I also sometimes have a knocking/thumping noise when I come to a stop.

A lot of other sounds and vibration have gone away and my mechanic has no more solutions for me. To be fair to him he told me not to bother with the sound as he had seen cars with worse sounds which the owners had to tolerate. I did my own research and told him to change some of the parts.

To date I have done the following:-

-change driveshaft(2nd hand)
-center bearing
-rear subframe bush
-axle/differential mounting
-trailing arm bush
-engine mounting

As for the transmission mounting I had the car jacked up yesterday and had a look at it,the rubber looked fine. The rear shock mount also looked fine but I may need to replace the rear absorbers soon although my mechanic didn’t think so.

Anyway guys thanks for all your feedback. All this time and $$ on the car has got the missus a bit annoyed.

My mech did mention something about some thing loose in the differential/free play or something. Has anyone encountered differential/final drive failure….symptoms ?....there I go again.

The engine is just fantastic and I guess being 2 dr I don’t have any problems of being underpowered….well all I can say I just love my ride.

Anyway what are the sympthons of a failing differential/final drive?

Thanks.

have you checked the shock mounts?

Yes there can be play in the diff making a clunt sound. Mine was actually in the U-joint though. My diff that I have on there now has a little play but I cant hear it inside the car.
