What are your thoughs on short shifters?

SSK is great if you like shorter shifts. They are almost always a little more notchy than stock, but the shifts are crispy.

I would recommend either a B&M, RD Sport, Autosolutions.com (custom high-end) or ACS (over $800). UUC is good, but tends to be very notchy w/o additional part upgrades. I've heard people that tested all of the above, UUC was not the best out of the box.

When I had my Jetta, I had a Neuspeed short shift kit installed. Quite possibly the best mod I ever did to that car! It reduced shift lengths significantly...made the gearbox more precise to shift, helped me achieve much quicker shifts, and made the car a whole lot more fun to drive! The only downside to it is once you install a short shift kit, it takes a little more effort to shift gears. But the effort is not much, and you forget the difference after like...a minute. [:p]

Just had a UUC short shifter installed. It was weird using it at first, but after a few minutes I got the hang of it. One of the best things I've done on my beamer. Quick and precise shifting. Heck a lot more fun to drive. I feel like speed racer.

Then I also made a home made clutch stoper per Akubuki suggestion... I think that was you. Anyway it's even more fun to drive with both combination. Many thanks.

Me too...

I also have a UUC short shifter and I love it. However, sometimes it gets a little resistent from first to second. Does anyone else share the same experience. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't happen enough for me to start worrying, but it does happen enough for me to ask around?

I have the performance package and I get some resistance from 1 to 2. If I shift to 2 at just a hair to the right, it does better.

Also, if I shift over 3K, shifting is much smoother.

On rare instances I also get a slight resistance from 1 to 2. But I never really thought or worry about it. One thing thought, I would never trade back to the original shifter. I love my short shifter!

I also like my clutch stopers. I made a home made one out of rubber ends that you put under the leg of tables. Got the pieces from a home improvement store. But eventually I may just spring for the $20 Clutch Stoper from UUC.

Abzotech, what are some significant gains in using a clutch stopper? Also, don't you have a personal optimal point for different gears in various situations? I am just wondering since I only started to hear more about it. Thanks in Advance!
