What is the sign of a worn guibo@flex disc@driveshaft coupling?

I drive an automatic 318i 1988 UK model.

I have had problems with clunking noise at low speeds when accelarating and sometimes when coming to an abrupt stop.

I love my E30 and have replaced the driveshaft, center bearing, subframe bushes and trailing arm bushes. The noises have reduced and handling improved but I just cant get rid of this clunking.

Could it be the guibo@flex disc@driveshaft coupling?

Thanks.

Doubtful. If they replaced your drive shaft they looked at the flex disk and if it had been bad they would have seen it. When it went on mine it was shredded.

Could it be your rear upper shock mounts? They are a problem on the e30 but I would expect you would hear it more when going over bumps than just at low speed.

I drove mine for a while, at least a couple weeks, with it being bad although I didn't know it. I was pretty shocked when I saw it. All that was left was a bunck of strings and some rubber.

But if it is bad and it breaks at highway speed, you run the risk of your driveshaft falling down which would likely ruin your day.

How do you know it's bad? I would have someone inspect it or you should at least look under the car to verify before buying parts. I thought I had another one going bad because of similar symptoms in a different car but it turned out to be a clutch problem.

i don 't know anymore. theres greased up dust all around my differential, and now i hear a whirring noise with a grindling click coming from it. i may be low on fluid, but i cannot get the damn check plug off of the diff. I am really quite pissed off. tomorrow after work i am going to buy an allen key that fits it, and see if i can crank it off and ehck the level. man, this sucks.
