Aloha again guys , I'm lovin' my new 318. I understand that the 1.8 isn't a HP monster but what would you mod first ? or change? Whenever I first get a car yeah I get all anxious to start modding way ahead of myself . But i would like to know what s out there for a 318is. Thanks guys

for a '91 318is is would do the mods in the following order:

1. JC Chip...adds about 12hp/15ft. lbs torque
2. Upgraded suspension. There's about a million different combinations out there, but for a slightly lighter 318is I'd probably go with Koni shocks over Eibach springs. The ride will be a good combination of performance and comfort.
3. Upgraded induction system. The Split Second MAF is a good place to start by getting rid of the AFM. Opens up the airway and will help the engine breathe better.
4. A decent exhaust. There are lots of options out there that aren't "ricey" sounding. B&B Triflows sound the best out of any exhaust I have ever heard for any e30...but in the $800 range, they are more than most are willing to spend. Supersprints are nice choices as well are Remus. You get a couple of tip choices and a great quality exhaust.
5. Lastly, and the ones you want to save up for...cuz you only ever want to do it once, are the body kits/cosmetic upgrades and wheels. These are probably the most expensive to do because nice wheels aren't always cheap and new body panels always require paint and installation. There are lot of body kit choices out there, same with wheels. You just have to be willing to invest some time for the research.

Okay, okay...my ramble's over ;)

AFM stands for "Air Flow Meter" and it is a very restrictive valve the the engine has to 'suck' open to get it's air. Basically your engine is putting out effort to get air with a vacuum.

The MAF is a "Mass Air Flow" sensor which is, by design, a big tube with a wire running through it to tell the car's computer how much air is flowing through the tube based on the tiny differences in temperature of the wire. The cooler the wire...the more air that is flowing over it...etc. This type of intake is better because the only restrictive element on the system is the air filter. This is unlike the AFM which uses a flapper valve. If you ever pull your AFM out...push the valve open with your finger...you'll feel how much your engine has to suck open.

If you're really interested in this system or the chip...drop me a PM. I have the MAF conversion along with some other goodies to go with it that I offer as a package. If you want to read up a little more on the MAF...go here:

Sorry about taking so long to get one of these up, but I finally found the pic of the dyno sheet. This dyno sheet shows the bone-stock e30 325i's HP/TQ curve responds to just the MAF kit...

Stock HP: 141 rwhp
MAF HP: 152 rwhp

Stock TQ: 142 Ft Lbs.
MAF TQ: 153 ft. lbs.

With the PSC module, you can constantly remap your fuel system as you make upgrades such as FPR, injectors, cam, stroker, exhaust, supcharger/turbo...etc. It's great cuz it's the software that keeps on giving. No more paying for custom chips everytime you make a mod - just reprogram it yourself.

With the ARC2 module you can do the same thing, just with knobs inside the car. It's less accurate, but you can change it on a whim. [burnout]
