When people are talking about buying a car above/below invoice, are they talking about base price invoice plus their options?

the options have invoice prices too. Typically a couple hundred less than the MSRP price. When talking invoice price, you're referring to how much the dealer theoretically paid for his car... the invoice price of the car AND all the options on it.

invoice of car ask your dealership, if u r looking for a loan they will say we can give you, then give you a percent, then come back another day and say i got, say a lower percentage, and they should give u a better percentage...BMW has great financial service

And finding invoice online is pretty easy. Just go to Edmunds or many other car sites. They'll tell you. They often have market price too, altho I prefer to just price it out on carsdirect.com and work the dealer off of that number. The edmunds True Market Value is a bit too vague.

I thought BMW no longer have holdbacks, but dealers get something if they get all 5s in the CSI.

Why?

There are manufacturer to dealer incentives on most BMW's right now. This effectively lowers the invoice price of the car by whatever the incentive amount is. Then you should get 1500 over THAT invoice, which ends up under the regular one.
