Where does the ZHP get its added HP and torque?

From what I have read:

Performance Cam
Diff. programming
Lower rear-end

It is amazing what 10 net HP coupled with a lower rear-end can do, IMO the ZHP seems set-up for off the line quickness more-so than the reg 330's.

Does anyone know what the top speeds are for some of the packages? This information is not easily found. BMW claims 128 for 330 but the ZHP is like 155 and some have tested it at 152-159. Do the sport packages also offer the same removal of the speed limiting "feature?" It seems like they would be the same with the higher top speed.

It is unclear to me why the factory electronically limits top speed of my car to 128 mph when the true top speed is likely somewhere in the 150 mph range.

And no there is no offer on my vehicle to remove the sped limiting feature. At least not from the factory. Aftermarket programming/chips can modify it, but that would likely void the warranty.

It really doesn't bother me as I will never exceed 128 mph anyway.

I wonder if my car's limit is just here in the US and the Euro versions can go faster (like for autobahn use).

I agree, no need for much speed over 100. I doubt I will ever go over 110 or so. [driving]

Does your say 128 somewhere? Not that it matters because who needs any more I just thought they were like 150 or so with the M sport package.

I don't quite understand why they limit the speeds anyways. Yeah, if you are dumb and drive 170 mph on public roads here in the US and wreck, you are gonna kill yourself or others. But, if they limit the speed to 128 mph and you are doing 128 mph and wreck, you are still gonna kill yourself or others. What is the purpose of limiting the speed?

All '04 330Ci's are supposedly limited to 128, says so in the brochure (and maybe in the Owners Manual?). I say supposedly because I have never tried to go that fast or faster.

The is no M Sport Package option that I know of on the 330Ci. It is just called the Sport Package (code ZSP) and does not modify the engine performance in any way. ZSP adds the 17" 68M wheels (these have the M emblem on them), 225/45ZR17 front tires, 245/40ZR17 rear tires, sport seats and clear signal lenses all for the retail price of $600.

The US requires that all new cars have an electronic top speed limiters. I believe that is why we no longer have the Mitsubishi 3000GT (or maybe I'm thinking of a different Mitsubishi model)...it was not given a top speed limit and therefore is not allowed to be sold in the US.

mr elussive, that makes no sense
many cars are set a 155 the german "gentleman's agreement"
its called

others are limited to 179 and still sold in america

where did u get your info about an electronic limiter
being requireD?

check your manual for top speeds, limited of course
chip your car and go to the race track to test
real top speeds
the 330 should reach 140 or so

I never said all cars are limited to the same top speed. I only said that all cars have the electronic speed limiter (assuming they reach speeds over 120mph, I believe). Go check it out, try to find a new car that doesn't have an electronically limited top speed, assuming it's not a slow piece of shit.
My car is electronically limited to exactly 156mph.

I do not remember the car but there was a review in a magazine and I remember the top speed was 200 mph and it said street legal in all states. The Viper, said to be the fastest US production car, is around 190-200.

My car is said to be "drag limited" no electronics involved, at between 152-159 and I would think this depends on the environment. There is just a max that the thing can do given the engine power and the increasing resistance. It takes a lot of power and sucks a lot of fuel to maintain those speeds. Nothing a bigger more powerful engine could not solve I guess.

All that and all you get is 10 extra HP and 10 ft-lbs of torque?

And why can't I get SMG with ZHP?!

Governing the speed of the vehicle, gentlemans agreement aside, is appropriate when the maximum attainable speed exceeds the safe handling limits of the car and the tires. To get to 70 MPH in a respectable amount of time, to provide adequate power for passing, and deliver reasonable fuel economy, many cars have engines and gear-ratios that would allow the vehicle to attain a higher speed than the tires are rated for and the suspension is desgned accomodate.
