Which way do side mirrors hinge?

Does anyone know which way the side mirrors hinge when force is applied?

The manual says "up" but mine don't seem to move that way very easily. I have applied a little pressure but am afraid to apply too much for fear of breaking it.

My X5 side mirrors hinge very easily front and back.

Hmm...I always thought they move front and back...up and down sounds a little bizarre. [???1]

Definitely don't try to force it any direction if you're unsure, the last thing you want its a broken mirror hehe

Usually they are designed to fold into the side of the car!

I would have thought they were designed to fold toward the side of the car also, but apparently they are not designed this way.

Has anyone out there with a 330Ci ever folded their mirrors?
