Who made my trans.?

I have an 03 330i with the step.trans. build date is 10/02, after hearing about all the transmission problems it might be good to know who made mine.BTW car has 48000 miles and had trans.reprogramed to fix clunk when stopping (SIB 240303).

SHould say on the window sticker what country it's from. You may have the GM tranny guessing from the date. I think it was built in France or something like that.

I bought the car with 13,000 on the odo,the only thing I know is from the VIN that it was made in Munich.

I thought the VIN number some how indicates whether you have a GM or ZF transmission. I don't know how. In any even, if you look at your tranmission under the car, there is a clear sticker indicating who made it and the type of transmission oil used.

Have no idea here.

All I know from my Bentley manual is that there are two different transmissions on the 3 series when the manual was written.....GM and ZF. I guess they don't want all their eggs in one basket. This has been going on for years from what I understand, including 5 series. They are definitely different in appearance from underneith the car. The GM transmission is smooth on the bottom, the ZF has ridges.
