Why is BMW Vague About Navigation Updates ??

I have gotten 3 different answers from 3 different people at the dealership.

A friend of mine has a Benz and they offer an automatic update program (for a price of course)

I have a 2003 330ci with navigation. Is there a new disc ? and if so, HOW do I get it ??

You should have gotten a card for NavTech (or some company sounding like that) included in your manual. They have info on ordering update discs. At least, that's how I got on their list, but maybe something changed with the 3.0? Look at your disc for the company name and go to their website.

Don't waste time talking to the service manager. Service mangers don't know SHIT about cars - trust me. None of them do - or else they wouldn't be a service manager.

Talk to the guy in the parts department - or ask one of the dealer themselves to call into BMWNA and find out for you. If they don't, tell them that's fine - and that you're just going to go look for an audi for your wife becuase they provide update information, or something like that. Scare 'em. [;)] [;)]

I ordered a new 2004-2 navigation DVD direct from NavTech a few months ago. Had to call them to place the order. They were backlogged for about five weeks. I made the same mistake you did and asked the dealer for the latest -- they didn't know what the hell they were doing. As a last resort, I looked on the inside of the DVD jewel case that my original one came in and found a phone number for NavTech. If you do order, be prepared to pay a premium... they're not cheap. Mine was over $150.

I went to NAVTEQ's website and (after putting in my information) this is the information it gave me:

New updates for your BMW DVD navigation system are available at your local dealer.

To find your closest dealer go to bmwusa.com

This is such BULLS*IT !!

I am rather disappointed that most other car makers are AHEAD of BMW in this area.

BMW SF Finally called me back.

The price : $249.99 YIKES !!

(By the way, mine is DVD based)
Holy crap. Get someone to make a copy of the dvd. That's a TOTAL ripoff. You can almost buy a new nav system at best buy for that much - which plugs into a computer via USB and gets free updates.
