On the freeway yesterday....BAM!!!....Lower Right corner of the windshield (1 inch from the body)....I pulled off and found a small crater that grew 4 inches towards the center...I quickly bought some of that glass epoxy filler and fixed it up. Will the crack continue to grow? I don't think I can stop it!!! Any suggestions? Should i fix it? Or wait until it creeps into my field of vision?

Your insurance covers your glass 100% with no deductible, and I think no rate increase with a claim. At least here in FL. Unless Ahnuld has changed the laws already.....

If it started cracking, then at some point, maybe not real soon, it will continue to crack. I had one (not a BMW) crack that stayed where it was for years, then one day, literally took off across the windshield as I was driving down the road. Half way up the window, sharp right turn, then straight across to the other side.

Not sure about where you are, but here a 4 inch crack is considered defective equipment, and can result in a ticket or worse.

The only real thing you can say about insurance and glass is "Check your policy." It varies by state, insurance company and policy level.

I have 21st century and it is covered under comprehensive, but i have a 500 deductible!
darn! (assuming it does not cost more than 500 to replace the windshield...i could be in for a suprise) or i could just decrease my deductible and then make the claim...is this insurance fraud....ugghhhh....

It's like speeding to me. You are only in trouble if you get caught, which is unlikely. How would they prove it?

I have no deductible for comprehensive....[hihi] [hihi] [hihi]

Not to worry or anything, but it seems they could become suspicious if you change your deductible, then make an immediate claim against that part of the policy.

Depending on your kahuna size, you could even go back to the $500 deduct after the claim is paid.[headbang]

Thanks for the great information everyone.! Got in my car this am and guess what? 7 inch crack starting from the left side of the windshield. I'm called my insurance guy to check on my deductible but I think its like $500.

Just took my vehicle to Concord BMW, Concord, California for inspection I. Anyone have an opinion on whether dealer is better than non dealer installs?

You're not gonna believe this, but I just noticed a smaller (1.5 inch) crack on my windshield, at about the same spot, on the left side at the very base! Is this some kind of design flaw? I'm gonna get it looked at later in the week. [mad]
