Window goes up then rattling

Would anyone out there know the solution to this problem:
my passenger right side window rolls up..when it gets to the top it sounds like gears are grinding/rattling..a consistent machine gun like sound....my brother has same car and has the same problem on drivers side...Im thinking it's a common problem..is there a DIY solution to this?

I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM ON THE SAME DOOR!!!!!! im just careful when i put the window up, so it doesnt grind too much...... i guess you could get a new gear (?)

ben maybe yours is makeing the nosie because it just got jacked up by a deer. just maybe

Mine does it on the driver's side with the window going down. It gets to the bottom and starts to grind. I believe it is a gear in the window motor. I think it is the motor that needs to be replaced. But someone will probably come by that knows better who will correct me. I've kinda given up on fixing it since I learned to stop at the right time.

Probably need to install a new window regulator. You can probably find a used one on ebay for reasonably cheap.

nadroj- nah its on the passenger side and the deer hit the drivers side, and its been making that noise for the last 2 months. but the deer did ****up the door real bad.....

Regulator

I'm thinking it is the power window regulator. It's apparent that the motor keeps going passed a certain point therefore the grinding of the gears. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to open the door up to install a new regulator? I've removed doors off of my old nissan but that was a..ummm..a nissan.........and I don't want to damage or break any plastic plugs.

Mine did the same exact thing, both windows. I went to the local junkyard and found two in decent Shape. For 60.00 for both I now have windows that seal correctly and no more grinding.
