Does anyone know what causes my closed windows to rattle? It seems like they don't fit into the frame? I'm not sure. I've had the problem since I purchased the car and it hasn't been any accidents involving the windows.

It is most likely something loose in the door frame so take the panels off and check the screws and bolts. If you hear the rattling up high, it may be the seals against the glass.

Are the winndows tinted? Does the rattle go away when the windows are cracked? If so, you either need new gaskets or lubricate the existing ones.

Mine rattled the day I bought the car and drove it off the lot. It took me almost 2 months and many slow, late night search and destroy drives through pot-holed laden canyons to find the cause. Actaully a friend of mine who is a car photographer found it while I was drivng, and he was crawling around looking for the rattles ;-)

Every 2 weeks, I spray Silicone spray (not WD-40) on the rubbery-felt window seals, and this has completey taken the rattle away. You just have to keep doing it. Hope this helps!

I've been living with my squeaks until I can get some gummi-phlege from the dealer. $10 per tube I think. I hear it does the trick for a longer period of time than other lubricants. Alternatively, you can remove 1/4" of the tint around the top edge of the window.

The squeak occurs because BMW uses a lubricant on the windows that is covered up by the tint. There was a service bulletin out about it, which is how I know about the lube.

i have the same problem. I tried to spraying the window seals with silicone spray but i still hear squeaking/creaking. Do you need to spray up in the crevice where the window sits when it's closed?

yeah, I spray up in the crevice, that way when the window is resting up in the crevice, there is silicone to dampen the rattle. I need to apply it about every 2-3 weeks. Only bad thing is that silicone is totally useless in cold tempatures. Read the can, but I think it is like below 40 or 50 F is does not stay flexible. Not a prob here in Hollywood, Ca.....but can suck for lots of other folks in cold states. Hope this helps, and good luck!!! I buy Krylon Silicone Spray...about $5.00 a can...and is great for all around the house.

I had the same problem too. I went to Home Depot, they suggest me use the oil. So far it is better than those Silicone spray and WD-40.
