Has anyone had to replace a window regulator? I have a 2000 model 328i, with approx. 71,000 miles on it, and in the past 6 months I've had to replace 3 out of the 4 window regulators. Each time it has cost me over 400 dollars. I called BMW customer service of North America to complain and was given a complete runaround. I'm really frustrated, because I've had the car since Feb. 02, and I've had to replace a lot of things around the engine. I'll never buy another BMW again. I'm very disappointed in the quality of this car.

Also, does anyone have any idea why the air blowing out of the A/C smells so moldy?

I live in northern Virginia.

[thumb] I can't help but agree with you, I've replaced two window regulators but I didn't pay as much as you have. I get mine done at J&F Motors in Arlington, VA for at less than $300.00 a pop, keeping in mind that they charge $104.00 an hour. Yes BMW window regulators are sub-standard and probably will always be sub-standard. The OEM Control Arm's are also sub-standard. Every automobile makers has a part or piece of equipment that's prone to sub-quality. Just my two and a half cents. Happy Motoring...

It's common. BMW refuses to acknowledge a problem, but it's prolly safe to say that the window regulators are defective.

A/c is common too. Since you're out of warranty, try spraying Lysol in the vents to help kill any mold in there. Run the a/c in the winter as well.

I feel your pain. I've had to replace the window regulators a couple of times too. Now I have to replace one that has already been replaced. It's really frustrating b/c I don't open and close my windows all that often (other than the front driver side one and for some reason that is the only one that hasn't broken). I got lucky the first couple of times b/c it was covered under warranty. If you're interested in trying to replace it yourself, I came across this DIY guide...

I've had to replace 2 of them so far. I had 2 go out in 2 days. It is rediculous. It cost me over $400. It would have been over $500 at the dealership. I love the way the car drives, but I hate to repair things like that. I just had a connector on a tail light blow now and I have to get that repaired.

Had my sunroof break 3 times (only opened it about 5 times total), so this
window fiasco is something to look forward to, I guess. :(

Thank you for the response. I had one of the regulators replaced at Fairfax BMW, and the other two at J&F Motors. It's very convenient to where I work. Sometimes, I think I get taken advantage of because I'm female!
