Wipers keep stopping (where's the fault?)

Hello all,

I'm having an intermittent problem with the windscreen wipers that started about 5 weeks ago.

What happens (or not) is they occasionally stop working whilst I’m driving along in the rain and will not restart no matter what position I put the stick onto.

The only way to restart them is to I pull over, switch the engine off and restart.

So far I’ve been lucky and not been doing 90 on the motorway when this happens.

Has anyone else had this problem, if so how do I fix it? (apart from moving to California)

do you have automatic sensored wipers? could be that the sensor does not read enough rain coming down to keep the wipers working or it just went bad. the restart of the car would reset the sensor and everything would be fine again.

when my auto-sensing wipers quit due to lack of rain, I have to roll the wheel on the arm to "reactivate" the sensor, then they start right back up... your situation sounds similar, but a little different. [???1]

Despite the sensor not working, the wipers should still work normally when on position 2 or 3. See if you can get the relay checked out, you might have a loose connection somewhere.
