Yellow oil light came on

I have a 2004 325Cic. It is 3 months old and has 4500 miles on it. Lately when I turn it off, the yellow oil light comes on. I then turn the key to 1st position, turn it back off, and the light goes out. I checked the oil, and it is not low. Anyone have any idea why it does this? I thought I would ask here before I took it to the dealership. Thanks.

It means you are down 1/2 a quart. This is common with a new car. Mine did this when new too. Once it was topped up the light never came on again.
