Went to that new owner's dinner my dealer had last night. Also had a bunch of cars for us to check out. They had a steel grey ZHP and it was an auto. The alcantara was lovely but the cloth parts were a bit cheap. Saw the sticker and it said Performance Package. It only came in stick before right? Guess they caved like they did on the E36 M3. Not a big deal, but I was surprised.

I like the 6 speed for this car I also like the alcantara but I only have this on my steering wheel, I have leather seats. The only thing I have against the alcantrara is wear; the left side of the steering wheel where I keep my hand (by the radio controls) is almost completely shot. I see replacing this every year despite keeping the car very clean, no food or drinks in the car ever, it' just plain wear.

What is alcantara made of? Is it leather or synthetic?

When you say it is completely shot do you mean it has lost its original look, or it is wearing through to whatever is underneath?

I can't imagine having that stuff all over my seats and having them wear out like your steering wheel.......

The only way I can think of to explain it is it looks like the "suede type look" is gone, it is flat like it is worn to the base material. I have pics but they don't show it very well because of the light and the different shades the material creates. The shift boot (cover), I think that is what it is called, is just like new.

i believe alcantara is a faux suede. has a nice feel to it, but i do think it'll wear out..

but you know next time you replace it, you can just get the leather wrap. the m steering wheel sure is nice tho eh? [thumb]

I didn't see many zhp in LA, but finally saw one the other day in a parking lot. Of course, I walked close to the car and check it out (to see if anything different from mine). Found out that it was an automatic. No offense to automatic transmission driver, but it is not a good match on a performance model. Just my opinion.

My good friend used to have a 2000 Audi S4 with the two-tone Black and Nogaro interior...the black outer parts of the seat was leather and the middle of the seats (where you sat on) was Alcantara in Nogaro Blue. It was actually very comfortable....not as nice as leather, but much stickier stuff for hard cornering.
