[:(]

I have a horrible squeak that comes and gos in my convertible top. I drive a 2004 325 Ci. I spoke with another owner, he said it was a well known issue.

It is much worse when it is hot outside, so I think it has to do with expansion of parts in the mechanism when hot.

Who knows about this issue? What is the fix?

Thanks,
Tim Cunningham

A little more info would be great, as "I have a squeak" is so vague.

It could be the rubber weather seals around the windows, that can make a horrible squeak (a tiny bit of silicone spray on a rag works wonders). Also that year E46, had issues with plastic sleaves/coverings over the rear struts.

The squeak is in the convertible top itself. With the top down, you don't hear it. When it is cool out, you don't hear it. When it gets warm in the afternoon, if the car is in the sun and the top is up, there is a very annoying sqeak from the area of the plastic cover that covers the well that the top folds into.

Remember when you were a kid and you were in the station wagon with the styrofoam ice chest. That sqeak that drove you insane half way to Six Flags, that is the sound.

Thanks,
Tim

It could still be a cracked plastic sleeve, that's covering a rear shock. I had this happen 2x to my 2004 330cic.

There is a type of silicone spray for all around the top. The BMW dealership did it for me at least every couple of months. That's how often there are squeaks in the top. Yes it is crazy but the rubber pieces just rub and need some lubrication.
