I Purchased my first BMW yesterday and only have 1 problem with it, when i press the lock or unlock on the key, it unlocks but none of the lights flash to let me know. I know that other cars you can turn your alarm off if it gets annoying but i dont know if thats what the person did and now i want to get it back on. I didnt know if there are any procedures or anything to get them to flash or get my alarm on. o and also when i press and hold the trunk button it says the panic alarm is supposed to go off but it doesnt. PLEASE HELP!!!

The dealer must activate the alarm to make it functional, no exceptions. Some will do it for free if you've had a "malfunction", but most will charge you. Expect to pay 1/2 hour labor. Don't pay any more than that, it only takes about 10-15 minutes to do the work.

OK, the reason that your car is doing this is becuase you do not have an alarm. most 3 series do not unless you buy one for about $180, which believe me, is cheap! you can order it at www.bavauto.com.

Sorry, my mistake. I re-read the post and I assumed (incorrectly?) he had just installed the alarm in his new BMW and couldn't make it work.

You are correct, the BMW alarm is dealer added option. They don't come installed from the factory. If the OP's car doesn't have an alarm he can buy one on line for about $225 from Pacific BMW or Circle BMW online. They take about 45 minutes or so to install and once installed, must be activated by a dealer.
