15,000 Mile Oil Change Interval

BMW builds the cars and therefore provides the best recommendations. Your car will run fine and dandy with BMW's oil change intervals, assuming you drive 12,000 - 15,000 miles per year (remember that oil gets dirty AND old). The car will tell you when it is time to change your oil.

If I had a service schedule for every 15,000 miles per oil change, I would be changing my oil and filter on my own time every 4,000 miles (even with synthetic oil), but I think this just helps us all sleep better at night and nothing more.

Thanks guys for all the replies, I guess I could have waited forever for the service engine light to come on, so I would get my butt to the dealership, I will make an appointment for tomorrow, any idea of what $$$$ I am going to be in for?

Depending on the mileage of your 2004 it should be covered under warrantee, which would be free to you.....

It's not free if the computer hasn't indicated it's time for an oil change. If you go prior to that, the dealer will charge you (which is why I'm betting a lot of folks do it themselves off-interval).

If it's been 12 months since his last oil change or since he bought the car it is free...

This is true, but that issue has been discussed in posts above. My post implies that this (computer indication) is the case, hence the oil change should be covered under warrantee.....
