I want to tint my 03 BMW 330CI, but I'm affaird the when the tint bubble up will break the defrogger line back on window. What type of tint should I use? any suggestion..I heard about 3M tint pretty good..thanks
I'm not an expert on Tint by any means, but I've also heard of 3M. You should find a tint pro that you trust, think about why you want tint, how long you want it to last, what you want to use in your car (XM radio, AM radio, laws, etc, make a big difference in what you should get).

I chose Huper Optik because I wanted to have a metallic tint look (where the tint looks like original glass), protected the inside of my car, but, didn't have the drawbacks of regular mettalic tint (kills AM and XM radio reception).

As for the bubbles, if you have a pro install your tint, you should be fine.

Stinkfinger,

Thanks for the 411 man. This is the kind of cool networking I love on this forum (though obviously I am rather new here).

I definetely will get it done. I know the best costs a bit more, but it's always better in the end. For a coupe, what do you think I am looking at out the door (with any discounts applied) for say a 50-40-30 (front to back) of Optik? And the Optik is "clear" enough that you think the police will look the other way? That driver/passenger front tint is the only thing I am nervous about -- the rest of the idea of a high-end tint is a no-brainer to me. Have you seen 3s with less of a tint up front? I would like a nice tint up front, don't get me wrong, but I also want minimal hassle with the law over it. Like I don't (and never will) have a front license plate. Been driving sans front plate since I was 17. In the 15 years since, I have had one pullover for a verbal warning and 2 tickets from meter maids (downtown Palo Alto were they are looking for EVERYTHING!). Total cost to me: $80 or about $5 per year of driving [driving] . For tint, I am looking for something not much more risky than that? Given my information, do you think I should do 50 or step up to something lighter? I am just concerned about two much gradient difference going front to rear if I had a 60 or 65 or something up front but still wanted the darker (and legal) tint out back. Thoughts?

Thanks Stink!

P.S. Oh, and I will definetely post pics. Should probably take some now anyhow so I can do a before and after session! I have the car in "Steel Blue" which is somewhat rare based on the relative lack of cars I see on the road in that particular color.

With any high end tint, you should be fine with 50% on the front passenger windows. I had never thought of using the gradient (30-40-50) until the guys at Lightspeed showed me a car with it. I had the same issues with wanting to have tinted car that looked nice, but didn't want to mess with the law.

For Huper Optik and Coupe, all windows, it'll probably run you around $400 at any reputable place. Be sure to ask for custom edging to the tint looks like its factory finish and doesn't have a border/edge - usually about $40 more for coupe.

Here's a picture of my buddie's G35 right after getting same tint as I did in the 30-40-50, and also blue. You can see my car behind his before getting tinted. I forgot to mention they also give multi-car discounts as well, so if you have a buddy that's thinking of getting tint job done, you should bring them along.

Notice, with the sun behind it, you can see pretty clearly through the front passenger windows, and it looks more like factory tint.
