To be honest I try to get no wheelspin. I launch my sho at 2,000, sometimes I spin them, sometimes not. Your launches are really relative to the quality of tire your car has, the temperature outside, weather conditions and so on.

Having a good tire on your car is a must for good launches. If you're going to pep-boys and getting the 4 for $100 or something simmilar you shouldn't do that. In tires you get what you pay for.

What is defined by "good tires"? Are we talking H rated or V rated? Racing slicks or treads?

Good points, wood_e. Is your Taurus SHO a FWD car? Because I find that it is easier to spin the wheels of a FWD car than a RWD car (assuming the RWD car has a near-50:50 weight distribution).

this is why RWD is superior. when you take off with that kind of force, a large percentage of the weight is transfered to the rear, and if you have fwd that means less traction.

I think an AWD car is the best to launch, because as soon as you let out that clutch, it just grabs the road with all four wheels and goes. The only problem is, you have so much traction, that you have to test out and see what point is too much shock to the transmission.

i don't 'DUMP' the clutch because that will let all the power through the gear box (my car has 151k miles) and also having a driveshaft roll to the side of the road after being ripped out of the crank housing is much more embarrasing than loosing a race. Slipping the clutch gives that little more control (it still only take .5sec to get full power!!!)

make sure your dsc is off (i prefer completely, by holding it down for 5 secs, until you get a yellow brake light),
The way it was just explained to me was....

to completely disengage DSC, momentarily push the DSC button and the yellow symbol will appear on the dash.

If you continue to hold the DSC button for 5ish seconds, you will also disengage the brake assister. The word "brake" lights up on the dash. (it absorbs some of the drivers harsh impulses like jamming on the brakes so the passengers will have a more enjoyable suddon stop)... only reason to disengage this is for agressive road course/competition driving.

There is no way to disengage the anti-skid system (short of pulling a fuse)
