What I don't like are the ultra visible shut-lines extending from the headlights to the front wheel arch and from the tail lights, along the rear bumber to the rear wheel arch. There's also another one going from the top of the taillights, along the side and then up to the rear windshield. Completely unnecessary and spoils the build-from-a-single-billet-of-steel look.
You have to seam it somewhere or else the whole car would be one piece. Where else would you put the seam?

The seams should go where they are now. At the front it's usually a small vertical seam running straight down from the headlights to the bumper - virtually invisible and certainly not visible from side on. Similarly the rear - from tail light vertically down to the bumber and nothing along the flanks. The shutline of the trunk is also not visible from the side, unlike the new car.

The problem appears to be with the design of the new bumpers. It seems like the bumper assembly now includes the nose cone and headlights so they've left themselves nowhere to go but down the wheel arch. Argh!

Looks pretty aggresive to me. Yeah it could use some fine tuning and some aerobics for chubby butt, but I'll bet the final product will be a winner. Oh and the Holden Monero is called a GTO in the USA. Definetly a car to consider. [thumb]
P.S. Are all Australian girls pretty? [:X]

Whoa, this new 4-Series looks pretty sleek !!
I REALLY hope that the next 3-Series/4-Series are really sweet because I've lost sooo much faith in BMW with the new 5 and 7. [:(]

IMO, sleek and sexy, but not as classy.

Dang it, I was all ready to get a 3-series this year. Anyone know if the '05 3-series (yes, I'm looking for a sedan) is going to look anything like the '06 4-series?

freakin acura has always copied off bmw and lexus has copied merc for as long as those 2 companies have been in usa
Actually the TSX is the Japanese Honda Accord, so it's designed in Japan, not the US. The US just named it something else and spruced up the interior, but it's still an Accord. I think it looks nice, but I'd take a 3 over it anyday.

front end

ugh!!!!!
That front end of the 4 series is UGLY!!! Go back to the current 3 series, or last versions of the 5 and the 7 front end and that would be one beautiful car. All of these hard lines, and the front end slant make it look more like a mercedes (which I think looks crappy). Give the car a bumper, and then a nice front end. The new light styling is also getting a bit lame. And for God's sake, get rid of the boot hood!!! If I want the hard lines, I will go for the Acura TL (which is still on my list of possible cars...since I fear what new "innovations" BMW is coming up with). BMW needs to take some modeling cues from Ferrarri and Aston Martin. The hard lines of the new Z4 and the current caddy trends really show that they fall out of favor fast. I heard on the radio that a local BMW dealership was selling brand new z4s for 7K off of sticker. What a bad mistake the new styling has taken!

i like it. i think it will look great irl.

btw, i'm not a big fan of holden and i really don't like the gto, what a joke. american muscle, yeah right. that car is a boat with a v8, absolutely no ties to the old GTO. final note, it doesn't make sense to import an american car, though i know holden is an aussie company, its essentially american. we don't buy them here for a reason...

But you did buy it, because you had no quality local rear wheel drive product available.

Any idea when these new style coupes/cabrios will be out? Since they're '06, does that imply sometime in '05?? What's funny is that while the info here is that Performance Pkg is now available on the current coupe/cabrio, a salesperson at my dealer didn't know a thing about it, so I don't think anyone can really know for sure about about the new ones.

Why do you call the convertible a cabrio? Isn't there some ugly VW that was actually named Cabriolet?[rofl] I think "cabrio" is reserved for like a partial convertible?

I just have never heard anyone refer to any BMW as a cabrio.

Could be me.

Compare the styling to the 2004 Acura TSX...

Giant rubber-looking rear bumper with wrap-around tail light/bumper seam:

Shapeless profile, with a mild sheetmetal 'bend' providing a line front to rear line:

Is BMW doing design research in Japan, or what?

hmm I don't really see the resemblence :( I think the 4 looks great :)
