I went for the Performance pkg. My son has a 2003 330ci with sport & premium & 18 inch wheels. He convinced me to try the ZHP and I liked it. My car is 3 mo old and it has 4200 miles on it so I do my share of driving in it. Whatever you want in options can be ordered separately. I have Steptronic, Moonroof, Leather, Xenons, Assist, fold down back seats, etc. You also get the M-aerodynamics pkg which costs a bundle to do later on on non ZHP car. The exhaust note on a ZHP car is slightly more pleasant as well. Eighteen inch wheels are about a $900 option on the std 330 and come with the ZHP. The black cube or silver cube trim is exclusive to the ZHP too. The suspension differences you may or may not notice in normal street driving. Front sway bars are 23.5 mm on ZHP and 18.5 on the std. The rears are 18 mm std and 18.5 on the ZHP. The 10 hp difference is small but the throttle response is quicker. Rear end ratios differ as well. The 6 speed comes with a 2.93 in std form but 3.07 in ZHP cars. The steptronic rear is 3.38 in std form but a 3.64 in ZHP equipped cars, the same as an M3. I hope this helps but either way you should be happy. One other caveat is the resale will be higher on the ZHP due to its limited availablity. By the way there is an imola red six speed with leather and moonroof sitting in the local dealers lot as of yesterday (Desert BMW of Henderson).

I went through the same decision process a few months ago. I opted for Performance Pkg, Leather, Moonroof, Xenons, Heated Seats. I love it. It cost me a bit more, but was worth it to me. Plus, I have yet to see another Performance Pkg where I live and it's nice to have a unique car. [:D]

I just ordered a 330Cic with Sport, Cold & Premium pkgs. I had originally wanted to go with the HP pkg however the breaker was my color choice. I've ordered Phoenix yellow with black leather and the brushed aluminum trim – the latter a no cost option change for the Myrtle. Apparently BMW at this early stage of the HP run won’t allow you to customize paints.
Btw, for anyone interested here in the USA – any custom color will preclude you from the European delivery program

If you are passionate about handling, and want the BMW that "those who know", the ZHP is the choice. I'd buy it all over again, and again. As a profession, I teach science to 8th graders, so however shallow this sounds, its awesome when middle/high school kids waiting for the school bus in the morning give me "thumbs up" signs, yell out, "sweet car", stare and gawk- There must be something to be said about the car's appeal. In all honesty, I bought the ZHP for me- not for other people (and especially not teenagers) to see and to make me feel good about myself with materialistic goods. I am a car-guy to the bone with more hours spent reading car material than anything else. I know what I like and find myself knowing more about most cars than nearly any salesperson I have ever dealt with.

I'm amazed at how much attention the car gets.

Did I mention the fact that the best part of my day starts and ends with my ride to/from work? The ZHP is like a drug. Test drive it. For 4 weeks, I literally woke myself up every night with anticipation of buying the car. I could not get my mind off of it after that one test drive. Zero regrets.

Sweet dreams and good luck.
Get the ZHP!

Any idea what I can get away with price wise. I really like Imola however the dealer says there won't be any discount because it's not a color everyone wants. I think because the dealer has 30 silver ones I can get a better deal. I still want the color though.

Can an eigth grader distinguish between a ZHP and non-ZHP? That is the question in this thread. We all love the handling on our cars, etc...but having the ZHP is pretty much like the placebo effect. I'm not saying that that the 10HP isnt there, or the suspenion isnt better, only that its nice to know that you are driving the faster 330. But really, folks, you driving to and from work!

Anybody else that has driven the sport package and a ZHP back to back care to chime in…

I did before I bought and IMHO the ZHP felt noticeably faster and more stable (part of this could be the exhaust note, it just sounds so good). Seems like many of you are targeting the 10 hp difference but that’s just a small part of the package. Driving this car in traffic or to it’s limits is exhilarating to say the least. The ZHP is not for everyone and aren’t we all lucky that BMWs come in all shapes and sizes with a variety of packages that we can mix and match to suit our individual tastes and needs. One car is not better than the other only different to meet different needs. BMW’s own words describing this model “the most thrilling 3 Series driving experience available today”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in sales and marketing so I do not blindly follow a company’s advertising but in this case they are right on.

As far as an 8th grader goes…my son is in 6th grade and came with me for the test drives. We drove a sport & premium package first. His comment after driving the ZHP, you gotta get this car. By the way, why can’t I have the most thrilling driving experience even if I’m only ”driving to work”…think I deserve that if I choose. You only go around once.

As I posted earlier we have both in the family (a 2004 330i w/ZHP and my son's 2003 330ci w/ZSP, ZPP and 18 in wheels) and there is a difference. The more you push the envelope the more the difference shows. Primarily, in everyday driving the ZHP is more responsive and quicker to respond. The ride qualities are very similar in everyday driving but the ZHP corners better. I have driven the ZHP in 2 round trips to CA (300 mi each way) and found it very comfortable including a stretch in very heavy rain.

My 2 Cents

I just got out of my 01 330ci with Sport / Premium. I found that to be a very hard ride. Both my Wife and I suffered back pain after being on the road for more than 30 minutes at a time. That lumbar support on the sport seats was terrible. I find the Sedan to be way more comfortable even with the ZHP M tuned suspension. This car is awesome. Seems to be much smoother and quieter on the road than my Coupe. This car also turns heads, to me it stands out more than a standard 3 Series with SP & PP. Just the feel of the M steering wheel with Alcantera gives the car and the ride a whole new feel. Don't know if it's just me but I love this car. I never thought it could get better than my 330ci (I really loved that car) but to be honest, this 330i ZHP is the bomb. It looks good, it sounds good, it goes good - It is good [cheers]

Beemer Dreamer -- You're getting a lot of opinions on what other people like, but I don't here much about what's important to YOU! You are probably not an over-the top performance guy, or you'd probably go ZHP -- it'd be easy.

You mentioned you liked Imola -- I believe that's a ZHP exclusive, so that mike make your choice an easy one.

For me, it was like goldie and the three bears...M3s are too over the top and ride too hard to be comfortable on a day-to-day basis for me; and even the Sport Package was more biased to a luxury, vs. a sporty ride, in my opinon. Also, I track my car, and I'm tall, so no Luxury package/no sunroof -- need the room for my helmet, and don't need the extra weight.

ZHP was the easiest decision in the world for me. I too LOVE the Imola Red (wish the cops would all go color-blind, though!). The ride is Sporty Firm but not too firm -- just perfect. The extra grunt off idle with the lower gearin, and extra revs on top (6800rpm vs. 6500) are nice too. And I hate wood in most cars, and especially in a small sporty car -- if I want a Cadillac, the dealer is right down the street (Sorry, Luxury Package folks!)

I've had my Imola Red ZHP on the track 5 times in the 9 months that I've owned it...and I love it on the track even more then I do driving it to work!

After this description -- you should know for sure whether or not the Performance Package is for you!

Yes I do like the Imola however I came across a Titanium Silver Metallic Performance and it looked HOT as well. The reason I am not sure is that I don't drive one now. I've driven my parents or friends or test drives but it's finally come to owning one. I'm pretty excited so the decision is hard. Ii kinda want my cake and eat it too kinda thing. Just really pumped up for this purchase too.

My thoughts exactly. Don't get me wrong, the ZHP is nice, but I am hard pressed to believe an eigth grader will even know what ZHP is. An eighth grader who is into cars will give *any* Bimmer that looks new and clean a thumbs up. I know because it isn't that long ago when I was still an eigth grader.

It's actually only $1900 difference between zhp and sport/premium. Sport/premium adds on 4500 to the msrp. And zhp with leather and a moonroof adds on 6400 to the msrp. I'm still deciding myself though. I think I'm leaning toward the zhp because the sport/premium doesn't look as mean as the zhp. I'll probably be mad at myself for getting the firmer ride, but we'll see.

Hell yes they can distinguish. I've been reading car mags since I was 10 years old, and I'd know every little nuance of practically every car on the road. If anything, younger guys are more adept. I definitely knew more about cars when I was in junior high than I do now.

I think that if you plan on keeping the car (for the most part) stock & not go the mod route - and value the best handling & performance (and can't/don't wish to afford an M or think its too extreme/need 4 doors or what have you) then the ZHP is the obvious choice. I test drove a ZHP sedan then a SP coupe back to back and the coupe felt so much softer, less precise and not as quick...it cemented the decision for me totally. Not that the regular 3 is bad...just the ZHP is really so much better - and I think the price difference is reasonable for what you get...as it looks more aggressive as well...and the bigger wheels, higher performance tires...the whole thing really...beautiful car! And I found it had much better road feel without riding at all too harsh...and my wife agreed that it was a compliant enough ride for her (and she is alwasy complaining about the (harsh) ride in the Audi and comparing it (unfavorably) to the very soft/plush ride of the Millenia...)
