Just to clarify. I have used Redline synthetics, oil, gear oil, trans fluid, water wetter, SI-1 Injector Cleaner, etc. in my 97 Z3 2.8, 84 733i (had used conventional oils prior to my purchase. Sold with 240k on her with no overhauls or problems), 91 750iL, 98 M roadster, 91 318is, 79 Chevrolet pickup and my 97 Chevrolet pickup. I had no adverse conditions, no break downs (lubricant related), and no engine, trans, or diff noises. I still use Redline products today.

Hmm,

All power steering fluid is Dextron.
Only Dextron II is sold in USA now so either get Power Steering Fluid, ATF, Dextron, Dextron II or any compatable fluid. Mix and match has never caused any issues.

Only on the BMW using the steering pump for the boost on the brakes is there a big deal.

The steering pump is used to power the brake booster.
That was need to allow Anti Skid systems, ABS.

The brake system uses a brake fluid.
The brake boost system uses the ATF.

Never put brake fluid in in system not designed for it, BMW clutches share the brake fluid reservoir.

Not all BMW's use power steering fluid. The ones with self leveling systems use Pentosin and NOT power steering fluid. If you put power steering fluid in a Pentosin system you will have to have it power flushed, about $600.00. You may have to buy a power steering pump!

And KC, can't you still get Type F power steering fluid, the stuff Ford use to use?
