I was just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on the audi tt, in terms of style, performance and overall value. Everyone loves their bmw's i know and i am expecting biased opinions, but im not asking about a bmw/audi comparison or anything like that, I just wanted some opinions from you guys because in my experience I've tended to agree with the majority of the opinions here concerning BMW's as well as non BMW's and I really respect the opinions of the members of this forum in particular. Drop a line and let me know what you think. Especially those who might have had first hand experience. THanks guys!

I always respect them when I see them on the road. They have very unique front and breath performance. But I consider it to be a summer car... can't imagine a little thing like that manuver through the winter snow. I like it.. but BMW is a more attractive car for my eye.

the TT has always been and instant classic. Even with 225hp its a little under powered but provides enough performace for the average person. The new 3.2 v6 is a bit more like it 240hp i belive but the new duel gearbox arrangement is technoloicaly brilliant and provides the fastest change possible. if i were to get any version it would have to be that one as it looks meaner and the sound well 3.2l V6 gives enough aural pleasure to keep most people happy. For the price of even the top of the range v6 TT the closest BMW is going to be the 330i roughly the same price and the tt gives better performance. (just) plump for the 225 and save £5000 making the Audi an attractive proposition.

I agree with Mike, the Audi TT is a great looking car but a little under powered. I've read on MT Magazine that the '04 will have around 250hp, this is more along the lines of where it should be.

I guess if you are looking for a weekend cruiser then its an excellent choice. For everyday usage, I don't find it as practical as the A4 Sedan/Avant.

I am not a fan of the TTs looks, particularly the interior, which I find rather spartan. The turbos can be costly to maintain. I am also not a fan of high-powered front wheel drive cars, so I would recommend the 225 hp quattro.

If you are considering a sedan, check out the 1999-2002 S4. My buddy has a 2000.5 that is very nice. I don't like the linear power curve, as it lacks the shove you get when a NA engine comes 'on cam', but it is a capable automobile, and nice on the inside (particularly if you get the alcantara inserts in the seats)

whoa, thanks for all the input guys. My first choice is a 2004 325coupe, but I'm not sure i'll be able to afford it. I was looking at some used cars and found a pretty good deal on a 2002 audi tt. 225hp 6 spees, with leather, premium package, spoiler, bose audio. It had under 20k miles so i figure it's pretty new and has a lot of warranty miles on it left. Asking price is around 27000. I was considering it looking into it.

I would suggest looking for a used 325/330, as they can be had in your price range, and you said a new 325 is your first choice. My advice is to be open to other models/marques, but don't settle. Go drive the TT and a bunch of others. Buy the one you fall in love with. Life is too short to _______ a crappy ________. (Insert whatever you want)

The Audi TT is a really great car. Visually stunning, and it offers much better performance than people think it does. I have taken this car through the turns very hard, and I feel it handles on par with a BMW 330Ci. If I were to get one, I would only get the 225hp model (I feel the 180hp model is a bit underpowered), and the 6-speed gearbox from Audi is much better. What impresses me most is how much of a pleasure this car is to drive. It is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven, particularly with the top down. It is just so entertaining sitting inside, shifting through the gears, watching the beautiful gauges, and experiencing the swift acceleration. It's also extremely well-built...overall, this is such a great car. For 2004, Audi is introducing a V6 TT Coupe and Roadster, with their DSG gearbox (similar to the M3's SMG transmission). Supposedly, the DSG gearbox is so freaking good, that BMW is considering utilizing this similar twin-clutch design for their next version of SMG.

In my opinion, it's great looking car and like other Audi's, I love the interior. I have read in various car magazines that it lacks the power of other cars in it's class though...

I do see a lot of girls driving the tt, but I dont necessarily agree with you. I would go for the z4 but I dont want a canvas top. I want the coupe if I do go for the tt. The miata doesnt even come close to either. No way I'd ever get a FORD miata.

Man, forget how many girls drive it. My Jetta was nominated #1 homo car of the US or whatever, and I can tell you, I never ever felt like a homo driving my Jetta. The Audi TT is a beautiful car, and like I said, it is one of the most pleasing cars to drive (I have driven them a few times). It lacks low-end power, but overall the turbocharged motor is very entertaining, as long as you go with the 225hp version, which is matched to the really slick-shifting 6-speed gearbox. And even if the 225hp is a power issue, you can purchase a $500 ECU upgrade which increase power by 45hp and 55 torque !!
Oh yeah, and there is the 3.2 liter 250hp V6 engine coming out for the TT with the DSG gearbox...wwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!

Bitches, Homos? I Thought This Site Was about BMWs

Just for the record...

I own a Jet Black 2003 330ci, Sport Package, Premium Package, Navagation.

I am also a so called "Homo"... but I am nobodys "bitch" : )

As a matter of fact, I "feel like a homo" every day...But if you met me you would think twice before picking a fight, most people think I'm a (very clean) biker. I am actually an Executive Chef in a NYC restaurant.

Try to be a little bit less like schoolboys, and a little more like what you are (or should be):

Adults... driving the worlds BEST cars.

Whoa, calm down buddy. For the record, I never used the word "bitch" to refer to anyone. Secondly, I don't recall anyone saying anything about any "homo" on this thread either. I might not have agreed with the guy who refered to women as "bitches" but I wasn't interested in giving anybody an ettiquette lesson. I wanted to talk about the issue at hand, which is the quality of the audi. I respect all people and I handle myself accordingly. I don't think anyone on this site is the type to intentionally offend or disrespect anyone. this is the best forum there is with cool people who are friendly and knowledgable about BMWs. Which is why I continue to participate here. I agree with you, we should all act like adults. So I'm glad you put in your two cents, welcome to the board, and I apologize on behalf of anyone who might have offended you. Oh and by the way everyone, I got the BIMMER. 2004 325ci, prem pkg, sports pkg, xenons, heated seats. Lovin it...

I was just making a point...

First of all, it was MrElussive (in the post above your last one) that referred to the Jetta being voted #1 Homo car.

I am NO believer in being P.C... I value our freedom of speech. However, there is something to be said for having a little class and respect in an intelligent forum such as this.

And In case you didn't notice, my reply was a bit tounge in cheek.

Good choice and good luck with your new car.

Joseph

Umm, I didn't pull that statement out of my ass. CarTalk readers voted as the #1 Gay Car in America (driven by the largest amount of gay males). I was just stating that when I had my Jetta, I never felt like a homosexual in it.
What restaurant are the chef of? I live 15 minutes from the GW Bridge, so I'm in NYC every week-end...

My knowledge is increasing every day about BMW's.........all I knew when I bought my car was that I liked the way it looked.......I didnt even know there was a 325 or a 328 or whatever all those other numbers are, I didnt even test drive the car or take a ride in any BMW..........but I have to admit, in increasing my knowledge through this forum, this is also the most entertaining reading at night that I have found........thanks for the laughs as well as the knowledge......[hihi] [hihi] [hihi]

Dont really know about the audi recall. I guess i dont really care to know that much anymore haha. I totally agree with you myharley. I learned so much and I know I'm gonna continue to learn a lot more through this forum also. The people on this forum are really friendly and knowledgeable and even the debates can be really interesting as well as informative. Tom does a great job of keeping up the site as well. I'm really glad I found this forum. It had a huge part in me making my decision to go with the bimmer instead of the audi too. Aw who am i kidding, ida bought the bimmer anyhow. But the site didnt hurt thats for sure. haha, but yeah, glad you like the forum. I'm sure everyone is with you on that one.
