My hood has 2 HUGE spots of paint damage from what look like bird droppings left on the it for too long. (It wasn't me HONEST, the previous owner sucked at cleaning this car!) It two splat marks now haved etched into the paint and has made multiple small depressions on the paint.

WHAT CAN I DO?

I'll post a pic later.

Sucks...but there is nothing you can really do. I have two small specs as a souvenir from the local mall on mine as well. I've tried just about everything without any luck.

Oh I hate that! Unfortunately, it stains like nothing else. I had a couple on my last car that I took a light compound to and I still couldn't get them out.

Sorry,[?|]t's to late now, but I used 5 star shine paint protectant late last year. It protects like gangbusters. This winter when the geese started moving south, I found lots of goose droppings on my bimmer, but the good news is, it wiped right off, didn't stick at all and left no marks in the finish! Best damn car protectant I ever used. It costs a lot compared to whats available at the auto parts store, but it was woth every penny. [burnout]

My dad had a half year old spot on his car that he didn't clean on time. When I was removing a dealer sticker from my car, I used this Blue Thunder 20% Nitro fuel (used in R/C cars, boats, helicopters and plains). When I was done, I decided to see what it can do to the spot on my dad's car, well, after a little of rubbing it went away. Maybe it just looked like it did at that time and I didn't check afterwards so I can't say. I'll check today and tell you how it looks now (almost half a year after).

William330, I think a good car wax does, but most car waxes are almost completely gone after 4 or more car washes or about a month in time. The quicker you remove the droppings the better your chances are against staining.

You'll need to CUT the clearcoat. I had some acidic water (bird crap + water) dripping on my hood from the roof after it was cleaned. I was away for a few days when it happened so it baked on. [:(!]

Took it this great local detailer guy who specializes in BMW's. Two hours later and 11 different stages of polishing, the hood looked newer than the rest of the car. No sign of damage whatsoever. [thumb] Some of the clearcoat is gone, but not enough to cause any worries in the long term. Cost was $100.

The trick is not to let the crap to sit on the paint/wax too long or in the sun. I now carry wet towels in the glovebox just for that. Zaino also protects well.

Where I live, the birds eat these red berries, which appears to make them very high and their excrement particularly caustic! Best thing is to use a car cover. Our cars are always covered within 10 minutes after parking.

That sucks. I hate the damn birds for doing that. I used to carry wet wipes for those ocasions but as the winter came, they started to freeze, I got a small spray bottle that I keep full with windshield washer fluid and have a box of tissues always in the trunk. I see a bird drip, clean it right up. BTW today I looked how that spot on my dad's car looks and it's still there and I think looks exactly the same. I guess the fuel just shined that part of the trunk and you couldn't see the dropping, oh well.

Here is the pic. My car is black and the pic was taken in the dark but that's about what it looks like. Think the bird did a double poop.[:(]
Wow that is particularly bad.

Have you tried a cleaning waxing first? If not, go to a tar and bug remover. If not, then go to a paste cleaner. If still not out, go to a rubbing compound...but be real careful as you ratchet up to more serious products (especially with a black car). You run the risk of making the problem worse if you rub too hard and take paint away.

You gotta keep up the layers of wax to keep bugs and droppings from staining the paint.

That is a HUGE mark. It doesnt look like people are having good luck dealing with similar problems, donmbmw is probably right in saying that repainting is the best idea.

Yeah...looks pretty well baked in there by now. But even the surrounding paint isn't clean. Looks like you have soom room to work there before sending out for a paint job.
