I read on another forum that both MB and BMW will be ending their free maintainance programs in 05. Did anyone else hear this?

I would be floored if BMW ended their free maintenance program, being that other companies offer "free maintenance", but BMW is really the only one that covers everything...even brakes!!!

I have read on several websites, including many in German, that Mercedes is def. planning on cancelling their scheduled maintenance plan. I cannot imagine a stupider thing from a company that has been blacklisted from almost every reliability report. In Germany the ADAC (which is equivalent to AAA) had their annual poll on auto reliabilty, and out of 33 cars, Mercedes was number 33 in reliability. Very, very sad. Karl Benz & Gottlieb Daimler must be rolling over in their graves!!

Within in the last 3 months we traded our 3 Benzes in for 3 BMWs...and their free maintenance def. helped make the decision. I am going to be pissed if they drop it....I really do doubt it though. I mean BMW can't be equally stupid as Mercedes. Can they????

wait if they drop it... does that mean all of us that already have bmw's cant use our free maintence that we were promised? OR do you mean that everyone that buys a car in 2005 wont get free maintence like us?

The guy that said this claims to be a service advisor for MB. He said that they were going to change the oil at 1,000 miles as a "get acquainted" measure and then offer a free oil change at 13,000 miles. After that nothing is free. He then added matter of factly that "BMW will be dropping it's maintenance committment in 2005".

Newbie Question

For those of us who ordered 2004's and earlier, does this mean our "Free Maintenance" we were promised will be honored? I sure hope so.....

If BMW does drop the maintenance program, of course everyone that has already bought a BMW will still have their maintenance program honored. It was part of your contract when you bought the car.
If BMW did do such a thing, I have to call it idiotic. Right now, the maintenance program is a leader among reasons why I don't just buy a G35 for a few thousand less. They drop their full maintenance program and I'm positive that they'd see a lot of prospective customers walk out the door.
Of course it's only hear-say at the moment. I'll believe it once I see it.

If BMW drop the free maintenance program, the sale will drop like crazy. I don't think they are stupid to do that. Whatever they decide to do..we already purchased the car and our free maintenance will be still be honor or else I can see alot of law sue.

YOu're trusting a MB employee on this info? I haven't heard squat. If you read up on autospies.com, I believe MB's response said that they don't care that Audi and BMW are keeping theirs, MB is dropping it cuz their customers wouldn't mind basically. MB is in the midst of some serious decontenting (to save money at any cost I guess). BMW hasn't done anything remotely close to what Mercedes is doing (like cutting out half the options in a package but charging the same amount) so I doubt they're cutting the free maintenance either.

Oh, and MB's still honoring all 04 and below cars that have free maintenance. It's just that if you buy an 05, it won't have it.

Mercedes makes great cars???? Great cars??? Hellllloooooo! Have you personally owned an S, E, ML, SL, SLK or G Class since model year 2000 up to 2004???

They are total pieces of crap. Sure they look great, just don't plan on driving them without a monthly, or bi-monthly service appt. They are an electronic , and unfortunatley a mechanical nightmare.

You might want to read Consumer Reports, Intellichoice, JD Powers, AAA, Motor Trend, Automobile magazine, ADAC etc, etc.... You might find that most do not share your opinion that MBZ makes great cars!!! [chair]

What the??? GO buy one yourself and stop reading those crappy magazines. I have personally owned an 2002 SLK 320 (which I now traded for a Z4) and currently own a 2003 E320 and they both run mechanically great!!! I also have an order up on a SL55 which I should be getting in a month or so.

On the note of the maintenance issues, for my 2003 Z4 and 2004 X3, it's 4 years everything except tires, brakes and wipers. As for my E320, everything is covered except tires and oil changes which is a new item they're charging now.

You might wanna take a look at your warranty again. I'm pretty sure they don't cover brakes. And yes, I own an E320 too. I'm not a big fan of the build quality, but it's still better than the new 5 IMO. And the brakes suck (I have an 03), but I heard the software got improved on the 04s.

What- do you want me to provide you with copies of the sales contracts?? Yes, had 3 2003 Benzes, and just got sick and tired of continually having to take them all for service...every month. So far the BMWS are great, and the maintenance is really free and comprehensive. Who even makes up what they drive??? Projecting perhaps????

They do not cover oil changes here. You can check with them at Vancouver Mercedes. I don't know why but they made me pay for the oil. Labour is included but the cost of the oil is not. It is random, I thought so too. You are right they do not cover brake pads.

Deutch100, why did you buy so many Mercedes if they were all crap?

Wow, MB of Canada sucks if they don't include oil changes. Why the hell is there even a free maintenance program if it doesn't include oil changes since that's pretty cheap for them? Are you positive abotu that? The free oil changes only come every 15,000 miles (not sure what that is in km), so maybe you just haven't reached that point yet.
