Can it be true? Cadillac producing a 400hp M5/M3 eater for less.

I guess Cadillac is serious about being the "Standard of the World" again.

The new CTS-V is a mean ride. 400hp and 390lb-ft.
CD mag reports a 0-60 at the most 4.7. (est) The quarter in 13.1. (est)

The best part, if you enjoy Cadillacs, is it beat both the M3 and M5 in the Nordschleife. (part of Nurburgring)

I am a huge BMW fan and enjoy many other cars. I'm just curious who would consider the CTS-V over a M5 or M3. Keep in mind that some experts say it could be the better car.

Anyway you look at it, it just adds fuel to the fire of all car enthusiast. Can't wait for the head to head comparos.

Just Looking for opinions

The new Cadillac CTS-V looks very promising. But what would you rather have: a Cadillac CTS-V or a BMW M3? Or how about this...
Cadillac CTS-V vs a BMW 330i?
I would always take the BMW, personally. The CTS looks nice, but it's also kind of oddly futuristic because of its funky square-ish design. And I doubt that the CTS (even the V version of it) will handle better than a 330i.

And there is no real point to BMW v G35 or BMW v CTS-V or BMW v Anything. This is a BMW forum and everyone will just defend the BMW.......................

All points taken

The reason I ak is because of how informed this forum is about ALL cars.

By the way, handling is better, check the thread about the CTS-V out running M3 and M5 on the twistiest, most difficult track in the world.

I haven't seen a lot of hard numbers or driver's accounts of the CTS-V, but it has impressive numbers to be sure.

I would hope that a Cadillac due in early 2004 could compete with BMWs that came out in 1999 and 2000. When the next gen M3/M4/M5 come out, the CTS-V's target will have moved away, rather quickly.

I don't like the CTS styling, and the interior is a joke.

It remains to be seen whether the CTS-V proves more satisfying to drive. I am open to that possibility, but I can't imagine buying one. Maybe I'll take one for a test drive next year. YMMV. [fake] [;)]

BMW V Cadillac

How Can you people even think about comparing a BMW with Cadillac? BMW are making the most powerful engines in the world. people just dont get it. The best showcase of its kind is the MClearen F1 powered by BMW 6.1l V12 producing 627hp Naturally aspirated!!! The car was introuduced in 1992 and it is steel the fastest production car on the planet. 0-60 in 3.2s and quarter mile 11.4s passing at 128mph. What do you think the car would do with racing sleeks at the rear?

It was build to be the best! Thats why it is powered by BMW.

Just tell me people who agree with me.[thumb] [thumb] [thumb]

I rate BMW as superior to Cadillac, no doubt.

Cadillac, i.e., GM, can build a decent race engine themselves. They haven't gotten their Le Mans program going, but they do well in GTS racing and many other classes. They built that 1000 hp. V16 at the auto show this year. A large, and impressive powerplant in an interesting automobile. Can't say I'd buy one, but I wouldn't mind seeing them on the street.

I don't think there is anything wrong with comparing the two cars. That is kind of the point of this forum, no? That, and talking sh!t, which we've more than covered. [;)]

Actually it did quite well, winning the 24 hours of Le Mans and moving on to a strong european and japanese racing career that continues, albeit on a more limited basis, to this day.

BMW built a 4 cylinder engine that produced >1000 hp. if you dont believe me I will try to find it (saw it on bmwfilms.com) so what they CAN make in their concept cars, does not mean shit. If you look at the quality of GM/american cars vs. imports, it's a joke. I mean, who the hell makes an intake gasket out of plastic...

No offense intended, but who do you think you are quoting BMW history to? I answered somebody else's question on the Brabham-BMW turbo four (the engine you are trying to recall) which won the 1983 F1 championship, by the way, before bmwboard crashed last month.

You will note that I do not rate Cadillac or GM above BMW, I just don't see the need for people to talk mindless crap about cars/companies just to make themselves feel better about their BMWs. And no, I am not calling you ignorant, but this forum would be a lot better if we could have honest comparison of the merits of BMWs and other cars. BMW does not always come out on top, and if we can't accept that there is something wrong.

And while we are on that subject, this forum needs to focus more on BMWs actual competitors, i.e. Porsche, Mercedes Benz and Audi, and to a lesser extent Volvo (seen the S60 R?), Saab, Infiniti, Lexus, Acura, Lincoln (New LS V8 finally has an engine) and, gasp!, Cadillac.

Please forget about the stupid riced-out civics. The comparison only demeans our cars because it makes them think that it is a valid comparison and we are on their level.

End of rant.

[cheers]

brahtw8, the kind of discussion you just requested and the way of looking at other cars is a very old issue on this board. there are those who can accept another cars pro's over those of bmw and those who can't. the reasons are multiple and colorfulland it will not change.

as far as comparisons with porsche, audi, mercedes etc is concerned, i am afraid that for the upcoming bmw models the result will be straight negative. they are just loo ugly![hihi]

What's wrong with you guys?

Horsepower is not the only indicator when you're shopping for your car, Cadillac got 400 HP from its 5.7L Engine, so what?

M legend is M legend, ppl buy it because it's M Power, not only because it produces 98 more HP than 330i + Perforamance Package. It definately is not the best / fastest sportscar in teh world but it beats out all other better cars to be the most wanted. WHY? Because of the letter - M.

If you'r shopping just for housepower, get a Corvette or Viper, but u gonna miss the M spirit from Germany.

that is right, but that still does not mean that there are no other cars outthere that are good and powerful.

personally, i just enjoy watching a powerful driving machine of any brand. some i like more, some less. some i would drive, some i won't. but still the car got my respect for being hell of fast machine.

I don't disagree. I never said I wanted the CTS. I just don't want it dismissed in the manner of some of my fellow forum members.
