mine accually idles rough with 92 or 93.
yeah mine is the same. I actually put Shell Optimax in mine which has an octane rating of 98, which is pretty high. I get great mileage - typically 500km to a tank (55 litres) - and good top end smoothness. Certainly, with normal unleaded i find my engine breathless and sluggish...and difficult to drive smoothly. I'm guessing you're the same nadroj.

i guess the people here like the 325is :) I have one, and its great... i have never driven a regular 325i, i'm sure its great, too... I really really appreciate the lsd... I dont have one on my '92 525i, and there is a HUGE difference.

Faust - on an older engine that has lost compression over the years, using a higher octane WILL help it - but only so much.

equate - I cant believe you put 87 in your M3. that is a super high compression engine and requires atleast 91.

My '87 325 with an ETA gets 25 in the city and 30+ on the highway. I like my ETA, however I know the "I" is more spunky. The ETA I figure is a beter daily driver while the "I" is better for performance. I also use Redline Oil everywhere in my car: engine, tranny, rear end, and even the power steering system. The Redline products help my gas mileage. Oh yea, I dont do the speed limits... I generally do 70 in a 55 and 80+ on the interstates... I dont drive my car all that easy and it still gets that good of mileage. I use only regular 87 octane fuel too.

If you are looking for a car to tweak and make into a rice burner eater.... definetly get a E30. You can do so much with them. I plan to eventually put a 2.9 liter M20 into my E30.

FYI, bmw has made 6 cylinder engines for a long time, since the 30's I think. I may be wrong though. I do know that BMW also made airplane engines in the early years and during WW2 they made Jet engines. :) Not bad for a car company. Later.

How do you figure? The bottom of the engine is the same. I have 178,000+ miles on my car, push it to redline nearly every day, and it runs like a dream (except idle[hihi])

A powerpoint I made for my (State required) graduation project my senior year!! 1933 was their first 6 cylinder engine.

BMW kitchenware!! I thought i knew all there was to know about BMW but that seriously stumped me...

The Dixie was a copy of the Austin 7 i believe, nice little car. That 1925 V12 aero engine was a beautiful thing ;)

Nice presentation - every time i try to incorporate BMW into my Uni presentations (which is often) i get groans of disinterest. haha. I wish we were all in the same class

hehe, I bought a 325 that is now almost fully converted to a 325is. (not little stuff like the seats and the computer, but bigger things like the engine, suspension and diff) right now i get awsome gas mileage with a 325i engine and a 2.93 diff; im not exactly sure what it is, but it works for me. im gettin a new diff sometime soon, so that might change it a little.

hope i didnt miss this.. kinda skiped a few posts..

if you put a 323 or 325i head on a 325e doesnt that give it better flow.. and you can up the revlimiter then.. would that be any better/ as good as a 325i?

Remember, an M3 isn't like the "Type-R" of Japanese cars. "Type-R" is just engine. The M3 has a wider wheel base, MUCH stiffer suspension, and a completely different engine, tranny, and final drive.
On the M3.......Aside from the thousands of dollars that you would spend on the above stated upgrades you would have to spend a ton of money on body work purchasing front and rear bumpers wide body kit, spoiler....and BMW enthusiasts will still be able to spot the difference! You'd actually save money finding an e30 M3 for a good price.

The bottom end on the eta engine is different from that of the is engines... I believe the pistons are different
yes, so does the head swap bolt on.. i have heard that the pistons need to be changed .. aswell as being quite involved and complicated..

but would it be worth it.. is it capaple of more power, being a 2.7L, than the 325?

any one done this, or know any one that has?
