If you ordered the car, you probably signed a contract, you should read it... I don't think you have a choice... sorry :(

JK
I can confirm now that I signed a "Vehicle Purchase Contract" What do you guys think about taking my mechanic with when I pick up the car? Have him look for the slipping problem before accepting and signing for the car? Worth a shot?[???1]

I think the only way you will know is by leaving it outside overnight and bringing your mechanic first thing in the AM to test drive it.

How do you get BMWNA to pay attention to you?

IMPORTERofRECORD said:
My car is due to arrive in New York tomorrow. I have read sooo many other peoples disasterous experiences with the steptronic transmission I want to know what my options are before I take delivery.

Can I cancel my order? If so will I lose my deposit?
Can I demand an independent inspection of the trans before accepting the car?
How about accepting delivery on a conditional basis? Meaning if the car has the sliptronic issue can I force them to buy it back?

I am sorry so many have experienced this problem BUT please try and understand I do not want to go through two or three transmissions trying to get a safe car. Somebody must have good advice. [paranoid]
When BMWNA relations responds to these message boards is it really them?[???1] How can I get them to offer me assistance and provide a reference number and invite me to contact them for guidance? In the short time I have been a member of this forum I conclude that there are people on here that run a good game of confusion and interference for BMWNA.

I too would like to know. Blows my mind how they selectively offer assistance.

Importer, you shouldnt be so concerned yet, as you can see some people have the problem and some dont, best to pick up your car, take her out on Medowbrook parkway ( Out by jones beach 40minutes from NYC, and its basically a empty streach of road with a couple huge parking lots, you can run various tests to see if you have the problem, if you dont congrats you have a tip top shape BMW, if it dosent call BMWNA or your dealer..

Why should I accept a car that very probably will be defective? This board reports the SLIPPING TRANSMISSION IS NOT AN OOPS but that it has been delivered FOR OVER A YEAR with a known defect. I genuinely sought direction, guidance hopefully some support. Harsh words follow.... some of you guys either do not own BMW's or do not care about the reputation of an automobile that has been in my families garage(s) for decades. I approve of the NHTSA option if we do not hear from BMWNA immediately.

Donm if you get a loaner check the spare tire, and make sure the car works before leaving the dealer.

importer make them deliver on a buyback condition signed and notorized. And take a mechanic with you, I would not let them jerk your chain.

I will do my best to have a "conditional" acceptance. How is your ride? Have they corrected the engine mount and sluggishness?

Nothing has been corrected, infact there is now more wrong with the car like the hand brake and the steering wheel volume controls ( + - button) doesn't work. And as usual when driving it there is a unbearable smell from the engine which forces me to keep the windows closed, the dealership claims its an engine coating and is still burning off after 8 months.... and is normal for all new cars. If they don't give you a "defect free" conditional acceptance I would sincerely suggest you look at another brand of car.

Sorry but I feel irrepressibly disgusted with BMW for now...

Have you tried speaking to the service manager or GM of the dealership (in person) and insisting that they make an appt. with their BMWNA regional rep so you can communicate these issues directly to him/her?

I am told these are the kinds of additional problems you incur when you yank out the transmission. Similar to open heart surgery not toe surgery. These cars are so advanced they have many systems that overlap. Mess with one and others get confused. Sorry you are having a tough time.

I will insist on my car be free of "known" defects. Anyone have suggestions on the wording?

Dude, know you are helping many of us that have not yet taken delivery. For that we are thankful![thumb]

I do have one question who is this Larry E dude answering all of everyones problems? [???1] [paranoid] [screwy]

I think the "member" who came on here as a BMWNA was probably a troll, not a real BMW rep. I have only seen 1 or 2 posts ever claiming that they were from BMW, and never any further dialog.

In the year that I have been a member here I have yet to see anyone running interference for BMW. What exactly do you mean?

Larry E is a fellow victim of the sliptronic, and is doing what everyone else here does and that is try and give the best advice on how to solve problems... Hah, when I post a question or problem I expect it to be answered, so thanks to everyone who helped.

Really, would I be able to contribute? I am not satisfied with the dealerships fix and I have TWO VIN's one from my car and one from the POS loaner which slips too. Should I put them in, do they even need the VIN?

Not sure if it is necessary as there are many people from all over the country that have filed before you. But, if you feel your safety concerns regarding the defective transmission have not been addressed then by all means file a complaint. That is what NHTSA is there for.
